His role is to back up the Officers’ orders and take over when the Officer isn’t there.

Doesn’t sound like “nothing” to me, unless he’s an NCO who doesn’t do these things when he should.

nco are the non commisioned officers which means you are basicly the second in charge after the officer off your regiment, platoon, you basicly relay the officers orders and help organize troops

He can't even draw lines... We haden't the officer and our NCO couldn't do anything.
tabten Dec 26, 2018 @ 11:39am
That’s the Officers’ job.

The NCO is a distinctive position in its own right. It’s not meant to be an Officer clone.

You’re confusing “didn’t do anything” with “couldn’t do anything”.

If someone spawns as NCO and doesn’t assert themselves then you’re right.

A good NCO makes their presence felt without undermining his Officer.

NCO is Non Commissioned Officers, they simply take care of the squad untill another officer comes.they don't have access to general intell out side of rondavouis and where the officer in charge told them to meet. Its the non coms job to help navigate and get there, not to draw lines on the map that are already there, except maybe to create a alternitive route to get to the location.

Corporals were the furthest right of each line as they formed for battle.

Sergeants were behind the formation to push men forward to fill gaps as they opened from men falling in battle. They also maintained discipline and their sword was to cut down those who fled in cowardace.

The officers led from the front. In fact, more Generals died in the CW than any other US war due to being killed as they literally led the men.

NCO is very important because when your an Co mosty of the times at first you neither took the first bullet or a random one who passed beetween your mens so the onlys left are the NCOs to take over & if there is no flags 'sometimes that sadly happen or you spawn at the other one) well you take time to join up so NCO is important ^^

some Officers have feint or soft voices and the Neanderthals keep calling out 'charge' etc. and confuse people.

Can't stress enough how important it is the NCO constantly reinforces the Officer's orders.

AND the devs simply must consider an optional VOiP filter so you can hear Officer/NCO and maybe Flag Bearer only.

VoIP shouldn't keep people from talking if they're a Private. It should follow rank. The highest rank person always gets the most volume. Then NCOs. That way when an officer gives an order, the NCOs can do their job of making sure those orders are followed.

Also worth pointing out that the war was waged in lower ranks by farmers and the like, not life long dedicated soldiers. Typical activity in ranks during the Civil War would likely count as insubordination nowadays. So, as annoying as privates chattering is, it's the NCO's job to stop chatter and make sure chatter boxes understand orders.

That will not happen

There is such thing as bad officers and NCOs. Sometimes people think they're good at a role and they're simply not. The fact that we get to choose roles is actually a bit of an issue. Believe it or not, most people will only follow a natural leader. If you don't have what it takes, you just don't have what it takes. You can absolutly gain that strength, but it might also require you have training from an outside source.

I have noticed that NCOs and Officers who attempt to "role play" have a much better chance of avoiding insubordination. Not to mention the fact that, if you have a soft or very young sounding voice, you're probably not an appropriate NCO. Fine for an officer, not an NCO.

Officers need to already understand the game fully and have played for a while. NCOs on the other hand can pretty much start out doing their role from the beginning IF they're suited to the role as previously stated. If you have a voice that stands out, please be an NCO.

If you're an NCO and you hear an officer give orders .. then you look back and see a group of reinforcements (respawns) heading your way, expect that they probably didn't hear those orders. Run back to them, tell the orders, wait for the last guy, then run with them back to the line. Make sure you listen for new orders then, because you're basically as ignorant as the privates you just helped.

NCO is a very fun job, but without good NCO personalities, it's like the OP says. People who are NOT good NCOs need to stop taking the slots for no other reason than to get a higher rank. It does not matter in this game if you have a higher rank if you're only going to ACT like a private.

So, stop taking NCO slots if you're not a good NCO.

To add on to what Ghost posted above, the number one thing Commanders need to know is that no action is the worst possible thing you can do - even a bad plan is better than no plan (or standing around for 10 minutes arguing about the plan), be decisive. If it doesn't work, we can always respawn.

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, Captains.

BTW a rank-earning system would be a great way to add character progession to the game.
