I'd like to see the different apartments have different colors that match their level and have a more muted tone so they aren't quite so eye popping bright. Perhaps even configurable by the user, if that's possible.
Example:
The studio apt could be that orange color (or a dingy brown etc) -- or you could go into the "creative" studio style and have it be a bright jewel tone color.
A standard 2 bedroom could be a cream/tan color
The luxury apartment or loft could be a bright white/modern style
On and on...it would be a neat option and a way to change up the scenery, so to speak.
Slightly off-topic: I'd also hope the people sprites are moddable as well to provide all sorts of looks for tenants and visitors from the city.
LOL!
That does sound horrible. Maybe we need some green shag carpet to go in with the orange studio apartments? :D
Green
Pink
Brown
...basically anything but white.
[edit]: Completly forgot the main topic, so bad of me, sorry
YES!
Colours can be changed in modding, feel free with that!
You can even do this!!!!

OT: The last house we owned had the pink walls/pink countertop in the bathroom. We didn't have a ton of money laying around, but that new paint was the quickest purchase decision ever. :)
Any software that can cope with layers and saves as a .png will probably work just fine.
we are testing out our own tutorials on how to MOD and we are finding them very simple, Rob the lead Programmer wrote these, and his personality certainly shines through!
We will be sharing these with you guys when we feel the docs are good enough, but we are 99.9% sure that these will be release before the release date :)
And here I find not only a resurrected five-year old post, but one I actually posted in twice, and also one that I might be able to help help with now.
Anyway, apparently there's a beige condo made by someone on the workshop (there are various sizes), I have NO idea if they still work or are any good, but here you go:
