other ways to deal with grime
i know that renovating gets ride of grime but are there better ways to deal with grime? like instead of repairing the damage it does... "damage" why not prevent or just lessen the effects of grime. like janitorial services... for the whole building instead of just for cleaning offices.

I feel like instead of grime, the game means that a unit is being damaged. For instance, the more people walk through a unit, the more often it gets damaged/grime. The game even tells you itself that a unit is getting worn and run down. There is also housecleaning and janitorial services already, you can see them walk to the units that require their services.

Want less grime? Put lets in less highly-trafficked areas (e.g. shops in lobby) or use lets less likely to get grimy (dental surgeries particularly bad, in my experience).

Frankly though, as long as you hit 'renovate' after midnight every night (or set auto-maintain) and have a maintenance office every 20th floor or so, it shouldn't be an uncontrollable problem.

While it is in fact not an uncontrollable problem, it would be nice to have an additional service that prevents or at least slows down wear and tear in the first place. Especially high-traffic shops have to be repaired several times a day vastly exceeding the rent.

yeah thats what i would like... i mean grime damage everyday... thats a bit too much. instead of dealing with grime everyday why not just deal with it every few days or have a service which lessens the amount of grime showing up. not completely eliminating it just slowing the time it shows up.

I would be for a service that eliminates the degradation of a room or elevator entirely. Right now its either not dirty and everything's fine, or its dirty and we need to renovate and people complain.

Even the overlay shows that there's a gradual degredation up to a point of "too dirty", it's just that we can't do anything about it until it's too late. What would be lovely is a service that can fight back this gradual degredation before it comes to that.

It's also not as simple as "simply not placing anything in high traffic". For as far as I can see, shops and restaurants specifically, have no problem creating the highest amount of traffic registerable by the game, all on their own if its just two of them side by side.

Fortunatly, this subject has already been discussed in the discussion thread and SomaSims came up with this answer:

That said, how about a general janitor's office with cleaning ladies SomaSims?

We have some thoughts that may resemble that, yes. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it then. They are aware.

oh i hope so. im wasting money constantly renovating everyday. sometimes im using up to half my cash just to keep these people happy. also another thing are they gonna do something about the AI for these people when it comes to broken down elevators? i built two side by side but these people will only use this ONE specific elevator or nothing else.

Renovating to me means remodelling. Hardly something done every couple of days. There really isn't a clear enough distinction between Janatorial, Maintenance and full on reconstruction.

Janatorial should be needed just like Maintenence for everywhere. Halls get dirty, collecting the trash etc. Instead of seeing that trash collector just hagning around, maybe they can pick up a mop. Janatorial seems segregated into tiny individual peices. More janatorial staff *should* equal less renovating as well.

Maintenance should be just that. Stairs, building, electrical boxes, pipes etc. All of it should need some sort of inspection/fixing as time goes on. They should be fixing broken stuff.

Reconstruction should be done by the Construction crew. It shouldn't happen every other day. They do everything when a tennent moves, they should do everything when the office or apartment is completely rehabbed as well. Might actually make them useful later game when everything is built.

Right now it feels like we have trash people, glorified trash people, construction people and then glorified construction people who do the elevators, redo all the construction work every couple days and suck up money like it's coming out of the fountains out front...

Cash isn't the issue. It never is in this game. The moment you hit a decent amount of lvl2 offices/apartments, you're roling in it. The problem is that it happens too frequently. I'd gladly give another quarter of my cash on top of this should breakdowns simply not happen anymore.

Again, something that will get fixed by the same solution! If there are services to fix things before they break down, a single elevator shaft will be reliable.

Not sure if they'll fix pathfinding. In my opinion, they don't need to. Just work around it the moment they prevent breakdowns.

Gotta remind yourself this is a small-time indie developer without too much exposure though. I've got quite a few in my steam Library. Unless they miraculously turn into a new Abbey Games ala Renowned Explorer, I give them 2 months before they stop updating, slowing down towards that point, if they don't get a lot more exposure. Trick now is to get whatever we want through before support drops *Cough* Decrease elevator radius to 13 *cough*.

Don't be too harsh on them. :P You can tell they put in a tremendous amount of effort to be worth the 20 bucks. Its fair. Hope for the best, don't expect TOO much.

well the problem really isnt a big thing. but it would be nice to see these little AI people take the adjacent elevator instead of wait for the broken down one to be fixed.

there are two solutions to this issue:

1. build the operations manager. once you unlock something I vaguely remember called "optimized xyz" it allows you to build a "large maintenance office" which has an option to automate all renovations

2. there is a way to prevent grime and the need to innovate: you need to build a broom closet in each floor. to build a broom closet, you need a supply room. you need another supply room for every 3 broom closets. broom closets completely eliminate the need to renovate on the floor they are located in.

hope this helps
