Hotel Housekeeping Efficiency
Anyone else running into the problem that Hotel Housekeeping goes to seemingly random rooms rather than just going down the line of rooms on a floor? I've followed my housekeeping people...they do one room on a floor, head to the elevator, head to another floor and clean a room there, rinse and repeat. Is it just me?

I haven't looked at the housekeepers closely, but I've observed that guests check out at different times. Could it be they are servicing the rooms in the order of checkout?

Hi,

as far as I know, hotel services work following guests checkout order.

Just be sure, checking negative hotel's reviews and ADA report for services, that the services are sufficient. (Less than two missed calls / no guests complaining about room not clean at the arrival)

Katherine is correct - they're just going in the order of checkout.

Well, the point here is less about sufficient services and more about the services that do exist. After watching them, yes they do seem to work in the order of the checkout. I feel my point still stands though because the question being raised is about the efficiency of this process. If the housekeeping wasn't wasting time running up and down and all around between rooms, there would be no complaints with the size crew I have.

Ok, thank you for clarifying. I'm guessing there's stuff under the hood that would make it complicated to do floor by floor vs. checkout order?

Also, while I have you and am talking about housekeeping, I am getting a constant error message in my hotels that they are unreachable by the service cart despite them being cleaned and despite them having the service elevator on the floor. Is this is a known issue?

Thanks for the awesome expansion.

Changing the work order would be pretty gnarly under the hood, yes. All of the services order their calls by the order they're received and the cleaners get their orders when the rooms checkout.

Are you seeing that error message in a mature hotel or is it something that you see when you move in a new service? We saw that before but thought we squished it. It could also be coming from luggage services or room service if they don't have access to the service elevator? Could you post a zoomed out screenshot of the area with the error or perhaps share a saved game?

Also, if you have two different elevator shafts and two different housekeeping services, they may be trying to get to the other set of service elevators to get to their task. If they can't get there, that could be causing it.

I was playing one of the Vegas scenarios yesterday (still feeling my way through the new content but, very nice, very nice) and I was also getting seemingly random "inaccessable" messages despite the presence of freight elevators from top to bottom. At least, I think they were random. I'm open to the idea that I still don't know which way is up in the dlc.

Addendum: okay, yeah, so apparently I wasn't getting that the guests won't take the freight elevators, thus the "can't access" messages. putting housekeeping on the same floor as the rooms to begin with helped a lot. later, once i built a second floor and added freight elevators, housekeeping (and room service) were able to get to all the rooms. going "hotel only" is going to require a lot of patience--those first guests don't arrive right away--but, now that I've got it going, seeing all those little sleeping peeps warms my heart.

Ah, just noticed there was already a post for this. I understand it would take some work to make it function properly, but I'm gonna give my +1 in the hopes that you guys consider it. It just bugs me to watch, and it's something the player can't control. The player can manage this routine for most other things such as carefully choosing how to place your construction orders knowing exactly how they'll follow the order. It even makes sense for other services to follow this order, despite the player not having any ability to control it, simply because if someone places an order for something, you'd expect the first order placed to be the first one serviced.

But none of that applies to housekeeping in my opinion. If the maid is already on the floor with 2 dirty rooms right next to each other, it doesn't make any sense for them not to clean the one next door even if they may have been the last one to check out so technically last on the queue. It's the closest order for that maid to fulfill so it should be the one they try to accomplish before moving onto the next, and if another next door room checks out in the process, that one should take priority over others further away, even if they checked out long before. All of the rooms need to get cleaned anyway, and it really doesn't matter the order they get filled from a customer standpoint, so all that matters is effeciency and the current method is one of the least effecient you could have. Housekeeping might become too effecient with my proposed alternative, and I'd even be ok with nerfing their cleaning speed to balance that out. It's just an eyesore watching their horrible pathing and ignoring what should be their obvious choices IMO. Not a complaint, just my perspective in the hopes you consider the change if possible. :)

This is what is happening. I have one set of hotel rooms and housekeeping, then I built up a bunch of floors of offices, stores, etc to make $$, then went to build more hotel rooms farther up, complete with their own set of housekeeping and elevators.

If you want me to try and contact you via a different channel if this is a bug let me know.
