What happened to the developers of RCR: Underground?
I tried to find any news on the game or info about the developers making a new game, but it seems they have been silence on all their platforms since 2018. Did they go bankrupt or start a new company?

Daniel is working on various business software. He and I have done a small amount of work together, but nothing really took off.

Bannon was hired by WayForward and worked on River City Girls.

I see. Thank you for the response! This is a really cool game so I hope that you some day find the opportunity to work in games again.

To be honest, I just hope that Underground gets ported to the Switch someday. River City Girls is fine, but it is a really downgrade gameplay-wise.

What were you thinking when you left the game in a state where any troll can join a game that someone else hosted, change the friendly fire option to ON and then grief the players.. Surely that wasn't intentional, but to allow such an oversight actually kills your own game.

I can give you the technical explanation: At the level of gameplay (which includes changing that option), the game doesn't have a concept of a "host". It doesn't even know it's running on a network, let alone differentiate between a "friends" game (where you might want that option) and a "public" game (where you probably don't).

So our choices were basically: leave the option in, remove the option entirely, expend some engineering effort to make it "sort of" work, expend a huge amount of engineering effort to add the concept of a "host" to the game.

(Keep in mind that engineering effort is a very limited resource. It would have taken away from other features and bug fixes.)

None of the choices are great, so we went with what we thought was best at the time. I think we underestimated how many people would be playing open-to-the-public games.

Was wondering, will you guys release a dev kit or the like for we fans who wanna make workshop type stuff?

I think thats rather unlikely at this point. No developers are working on it anymore, and they don't plan to.

Hey man, I just want you to know this is one of my favorite games I have ever played, and reminded me of a simpler time of video games with the complexity I dreamed of. So thank you all for what you did. Don't let my play time fool you I was borderline obsessed with the game, my fiance just wouldn't play with me so i have to put a pin in the game.

Thats too bad, there is a lot of slop, cashing in on a name or money grabs out there.

You all delivered 100%. You deserve a good wage for what you shelled out and if anyone in the industry had a brain would likely give you a wack at another cherished title.

Take Double Dragon for instance its Garbo since 2, or even an updated The Warriors.

Anyhow I truly appreciate the 4 year journey you took, this one is classic.

Man, It honestly hurts to hear that you aren't working on games anymore. This one is my absolute favorite, I play it with my son, he loves it too. I wish I had enough money to fund your life so you could make more games. Truly excellent work, thank you.

Makes me sad reading this news (not so news anymore lol). I was really looking forward to back in the day when the devs were planning on character creation in the form of mod support. Would have made an already fun game even more excellent for m. Sad but glad to know the devs are doing well at the very least.

i guess any chance for console release is dead in the water.
