Using my Controller as Player 1?

I have an 8bitdo Controler with Xinput support and it shows for the game but always registers me as player 2 and player 1 as the keyboard.

Is there a way to get my controller to register as Player1? I can still adjust all settings as player 2 but when I actually play I have 1 character just sitting at the begining of the level -_-

Only plug the controller after the game opens. For some reason, it won't recognize if you plug beforehand.

I actually fixed it today. Turns out I had to unplug my iphone usb for some reason but def fixed it! incase anyone else seems to have the issue try unpluggingh all USB controllers as well as iphone/android cables/chargers
