How does one gather Iron Ore?

How does one gather Iron Ore in this game, I can't figure it out.

Iron Ore is currently one of the hardest resources to collect. They spawn in more dangerous areas and require a high attack to break. Looking at the game data here they have a minimum to damage of 69 and 960 health. In game they are very dark and shiny.
