How to prevent wild animals from stealing my base?

I was wandering around and when I went back to my base some pesky little critters where running off with half of my base in their beaks. Is there a way to prevent them from doing so?

Hey, geist. Did night pass at all while you were away? Wild creatures are prone to raiding at night and you can build a bed to sleep in to "skip" night time and prevent this. You also may have an angry herd or Poacher camp nearby and you'd have to go hunt them down to stop their attacks. You can also leave some stronger creatures behind to help defend while you're away, though make sure they're Tamed (not Bonded) or they'll try to follow you when you leave. :)

(We'll definitely be tuning homesteads and raids in the future. Right now we're focused on creatures and really making them shine with improved AI, abilities, and animations. Then we'll get back to improving the Adventure Mode experience.)

Well I came back during the night and I hadn't a bed with me (maybe some kind of sleeping bag or such would be nice, for when night hits you while you're out of base?). Haven't seen a trace of that angry herd afterwards, they just dissappeared with what they took ^^
I had no defense though, guess I need to tame some beasts then. Well thanks for to the answer.

Well my base is close to the first beacon, because I got tired to walk around and search for light beams to revive my creature. Especially because I often had a hard time to find my base afterwards ^^
