Virus?
I enjoyed the game I got all endings, but when I checked my antivirus and it picked up “malware” in the ————- file and blocked it, it didn’t mess around with game play since it was after I finished the game and its probably nothing but I’m just making sure. Btw my antivirus is bitdefender 2017.

The game itself is not harmful, but malicious things can infect other files too I think. (needs confirmation?) For example, my antivirus found a trojan in another game's files once when I tried starting it, but no one else reported anything. Games are also tested before being released on Steam.

I did a full system scan and got nothing.

I'm just saying, it was a single file for me as well back then. Which antivirus are you using? Maybe it marks the file as dangerous.

It's rare that Steam games have viruses in them

I’m using bitdefender and it blocked it.

It could be related to how the game drops files and changes the background of your computer at differen't times during the game. Maybe that's the part of the game that does it, and your antivirus picked it up as something dangerous? I'm not sure though...

If anyone else with bitdefender here can report similar stuff happening, feel free to.

I never noticed it changed the background, maybe my antivirus considered that a threat and blocked it.

That's because it's found via heuristic analysis, which means that your anti-virus program did not actually find a known virus signature in the file, but that the file has characteristics of a virus, which could indicate an unknown virus, but could also be something harmless like changing the desktop wallpaper. In case of OneShot, it's most likely the latter.
The whole name should've been something like "Malware Gen: Atc4.Detection" which means it's a generic malware detection, found by BitDefender's Active Threat Control.

If you're not sure about a file, you can always upload it to https://www.virustotal.com/ and have it checked by around 60 anti-virus engines.

I just got this when trying to load Neverwinter via Arc (not Steam). I kept getting the message in the NW Launcher:

"Error 36 a file was locked and could not be opened for writing"

Turns out that BitDefender Total Security 2018 "found" Atc4.Detection in Gameclient.exe:

"The file c:\... neverwinter\live\gameclient.exe is infected with Atc4.Detection and was moved to quarantine. It is recommended that you run a System Scan to make sure your system is clean"

A Google search for Atc4.Detection revealed that it appears to not exist at all, and just about every hit was to do with BitDefender false positives deleting files and sending them to Quarantine.

:steamfacepalm:

So that was a pleasant waste of several hours running a complete system scan with DB and Malwarebytes...

I've used BD since 2012 and never had a problem with it until this last year or two.

Antiviruses find viruses based on "signatures" in executables and whatnot, so the methods used for flagging a file as a virus aren't always 100% accurate (close to 99% though). As such, sometimes these programs can flag/quarantine safe files.
