More than 1 active ship?
Will we be able to own a "fleet"? Basically like a bounty hunter in SG2, but you own the ships. As you travel, will you be able to say have 3 battleships at your side or just 1?

We are still discussing this, but I can assure you you will have at least what you had in SPG2, but we are aiming to make it better this time.

Alright, thanks! I think it would be a decent idea because say when you enter a Wormhole and you exit through the other side and you get ambushed by 6 ships, you have 3 ships that you can control and help defend yourself by sending each ship in a different direction or each ship can specifically target other targets. So instead of 1 ship firing at 1 enemy, you have 3 ships that you can say "Hey, fleet, fire at this one ship" or "Hey, ship #1 target this one, Ship #2 target the far right, #3 get the one on the far left."

It could also be an achievement, only players Lvl ??? and above can have multiple ships - except for hired mercs.

Direct control of three ships simultaneously? Like, they are slaved to a formation? Or do you mean the ability to assume command of any ship in your attending fleet (like Starfleet Command did)?

Slaved to a formation. Basically they have to stay by your main ship - but you can say I want ship #3 to attack while #1 and #2 do not attack and things like that. You have control over the ships, but they stay by you.

I think it would be great to command any ship you own, but order other you own to be wingmen, so that if you get into trouble they will be there, and while it might not be a fleet, it certainly could be called a 'wing' of ships.with simple orders like: follow me, or protect me, then seperate orders every second wouldnt be necessary.I beleive that tyring to make you the commander of every ship you own at on ce would be a huge problem for the devs so simpler orders and simple formations would be much easier. (Line, Wedge,Diamond, etc)

In a sense, sort of what I was suggesting/asking. Basically You have one main ship - the one you control. Then you have other ships "following" you or by your side and you can do commands like select one of the ships, click "defend" or "attack." Defend would keep the ship by you; attack would send the ship to the target and once it kills the target, it comes back to you, but if it gets destroyed, you'll have to purchase another "side" ship.

Issuing commands to other ships in your fleet, in case you are personally part of the combat, is on the table and we are looking into most suitable form for such a thing. If you are not with your fleet, you will issue command to entire formation and their commander will use appropriate tactics. Another thing we are discussing is option to hire and level specific commanders that would then be appointed to command designated fleet...

Yeah, the only problem is, I like to free roam and just explore the game, unlock as many areas that I am able to go to, so I don't have the constant funds to "pay" for a merc. ship or crew members because I am just exploring. I was hoping that I can battle hardcore for a few days, get the money saved up to buy a "2nd ship" to "command" along with my first one with out having to pay a "hiring" fee. I can understand paying for a new ship if it is destroyed and repairing the ship, but I can't really "hire" anyone because most of the time I am hauling my arse away from battle just so I can experience all the weird and cool features that are hidden all around the map.

Ah that is what you're aiming at! Sorry for misunderstanding it initially. Well, that way of playing Warlords didn't cross my mind really. But does sounds intriguing. Instead commanding fleets, using just your small merry group of ships while roaming the galaxy. I think I will make a note of this and once fleets are on the table, put a bug into programers ear and see what they say...

No problem, I was getting a bit confused myself. Pretty much why I was explaining as much as I was able to put into words. And thanks! Can't tell you how many times I tried to just explore the "universe" enter a wormhole with just one ship and then have 5 gang up on me and no physical way to win.

The main reason for the "2nd" or "3rd" ship that co-exists with the first one is so when I press "Fire at will" my ship along with the other 2 are ready for attack. It's like my own security guards that have a one time pay. But it is literally like purchasing a ship, but instead of 1 ship that you can "control", "fight", or "explore" with, you have a few.

It is in a sense like a fleet, but it is 1 big ship with like 2 medium ships at it's side.
