Confused on Selling Ships from Garage
I read earlier in a separate topic (ProTip) that it is wiser to repair ships & sell them from the garage directly for BB & up ships. However, the math eludes me.

I sold a few ships at Baeldor but I do not seem to be getting the full value of it? Say a 6M Battleship only increased my monies by about 4M. Because of this, I seemed to have actually lost money by repairing it first (repair costs were at 1.8M - if I sold it outright, I would've been given 3.7M). Instead, I only got around net 2.2M from the sale.

Is there something amiss here that I missed? I tried selling a Carrier valued at 21M but also do not seem to be getting the full 21M? If it helps, I was selling the ship in Baeldor (neutral territory).

Regardless of where you sell, garage price remains the same. Your observation is interesting. What I understand, you captured a Battleship. Once repaired and sold for 6M you only got 4M?Quite puzzling. My calculation goes, you should have a selling value more than the junk value (3.7M) + repair cost (1.8M). And you're saying, too, that you made a net amounting to 2.2M, so the total garage price should be 7.7M and must be added to your previous balance. I'm now confused. But can you confirm your math next time you capture a ship?

Sometimes you get less money than the displayed price in the garage, no matter if the ship has been captured or bought.

I recall starting with 57.4M. I captured a Saratoga and opted to repair it. Here's what happened:

57.5M Initial Monies
- 1.8M Repair Cost
55.6M Post Repair
+ 4.1M Sale from Garage (Originally was supposed to be 6.0M)
59.7M After Sale

From here, I only gained 2.2M from when I started. This made the Battleship have the effective "gain" of only 2.2M ~roughly the same as a cruiser. I was not sure what happened as this was the first time I actively tracked it.

I first noticed that there was some discrepancy when I sold a carrier and seemingly did not get 21M. Thus, I tracked my next sale.

So, the argument here is, it's better to sell the captured ship outright instead of repairing it. I suggest the marketing guy should be fired for not doing his job well enough. :steamhappy:

Hi, I'm "that guy".

If you go back and read the thread I made, we all crunched the math and concluded it really only starts becoming a thing (for whatever odd reason) when you start doing it with Dreads and Carriers. Battleships work too but the profit margin is not as great.

Ops, sorry for the misunderstanding. You're a Warlord not a "marketing guy". Your analysis is well taken. But the discrepancy on the credits being received as to the garage selling price has to be explained and corrected.

Nice catch. I never checked if the displayed sellprices were correct.
It turns out they are not. I tried to sell a few ships from my garage and I got

-Cruiser: 1,850,000 (displayed 2.7 m)
-Battleship: 4,050,000 (displayed 6 m)
-Dread: 13,050,000 (displayed 19.5 m)
-Carrier: 14,050,000 (displayed 21 m)

The numbers were consistent aross multiple diffrent ships across their class with or without fighterwings. The numbers shown in the after-boarding-screen for repair, sell and so on seem to be correct.

It almost look like the repair fees are applied twice...

Yes, that was the tip I read and started using immediately. The example I saw was a Cruiser and initially though that it was BB & up given the "listed" price of battleships.

Yes! These match the results I am getting too. In which case, it seems like it is not worth it to do the repair + sell from garage option even for Dread & Carriers since repair cost exceeds the difference between actual sale price from garage and direct sale price upon capture.

Agree. Garage selling price is not returned as income after sales. Until this is resolved, I would sell captured ship outright.

I agree - with one exception.

Enemy Carriers will always have a full compliment of Fighters with them - and these often seem to be the Lightning variety. This is one of the most expensive type of Fighter, easily selling for 2-3m each.

I've not crunched the numbers yet, but the sell of these should cover the repair cost nicely which makes the garage sale (even if not the listed price) more profitable, no?
