As for combat; First thing I do in combat is dropping my speed real low and try to stay somewhat at a distance so I can keep the enemy on screen most of the time. Combine that with the tracking camera (I think it's K by default) it is much easier to navigate in combat.
The last thing you want is to try and cope with combat as you normally would in a dogfight simulator. Think of the ships more like wooden pirate ships that keep a distance to eachother until boarding. Try keeping the distance while you circle around and keep the best shielded sides and full batteries facing the enemy. Learn the distance of your weapons (distance is everything in this game IMO) and use that to your advantage.
These are all pretty general advice but I couldn't really think of anything else to say. So to sum up; Lower your speed, use tracking camera, keep a good distance (well mostly, unless you are way OP and have short distance weapons) and dance (ie move). For all it's worth keep dancing!
Safe Travels Captain
I find SPG Series to be much better with mouse and keyboard. WSAD and QE for Roll, K key for target lock and you're good to go.
Turret mode (V key) is also something that you should be in most the time as it gives you the ability to be viewing all around your ship when in flight/combat.
Keep at it Captain, you will become the Defender or Scourge (I am a pirate player so its Scourge of the Universe for me) of the Universe!
2. Don't forget to put more energy into weapons and shields during fights.
3. Try to lower the difficulty until you get a hang of those controls.
4. Stay relatively close to your home base for repairs and to encounter less enemies at the beginning.
5. Have at least 1 T-Drive (you can buy it on any station) so you can retreat if things go south. It's like a panic button.
As for lowering the difficulty level, can I change it during the game or is it once set, that is it? So can I lower the difficulty level now or do I need to start a new game and start of easy and once I get the hang of it, need to start another new game to increase the difficulty level?
