I also think Saratoga is not bad. I tried them out and reloaded my previous save. It seems for now, Saratoga is probably better since manueverability is important. Others take forever to move on their broadsides, etc. which gets stressful in combat. I wish the lock-on like EVE would have been in place so we did not have to constantly move it around. That is more than half of my battle trying to figure out which side to face.
EDIT: Is it about the 8 light weapon turrets on the port side?
If you prefer a more tankier approach, Reliant is very good.
I tried out all of them. Saratoga is very easy to handle and maneuver. The speed to move the ship around is better than most battleships, and makes it easy in battle. After using Eiras, the only thing that comes close to the awesomeness of Eiras is Saratoga.
What is the uniqe story ship you mention here? If that is a spoiler don't mention it.
Is there a reason you can't buy the MK2 ships after you research them?
