Getting junk reclaimers built/captured and upgraded helps a ton as well as you progress.
I have to agree that in the early game gathering sufficient materials to too difficult in that yields are too low so it takes to long to get going.
Sure, you can build two junk reclaimers in the starting area. And yes, you can go to a junk yard and blast bits of scrap but that a) doesn't always yield materials and b) when it does rarely yields more than 1.
You need 1400 for the first R&D expansion.
That feels like an unnecessary break on progress. if it stays like this, and assuming that it's possible, I will probably look to cheat myself additional resources at the start just to get going, but I'd really prefer to avoid this approach....
I suggest sending scavanger swarm on derelicts rather than destroying it with weapons. It gives you a bit more materials. Boarding gunship isnt too hard with couple of perks and you can scrap it into materials (another fast method of gathering materials). There is enemy region with junkyard nearby which you can overtake. It's fun :)
Having said that in the end it didn't take too long to get to the necessary for the research section, and being able to research better guns etc makes a huge difference :).
