1. Vanguard, love charging into a group of enemies and just tearing the small ones apart with a shotgun blast.
2. Vanguard.
3. Sharpshooter, mostly because I'm horrible at keeping a target at distance to get the most out of the passive bonus.
4. The Charge. It just feels so satisfying to smash into another ship, causing it to explode.
5. Stealth but only because I never really play stealth classes in games.
6. I've played around with one, but I always go back to full vanguard.
7. I don't play to too high a level for betas, but I've got Shotgun to rank 5, Charge to rank 5, Gravity Pull to rank 9 (love that shield buff) and Overload is rank 3 or 4 I think. Been awhile since I last played.
8. Yep.
9. Gladiator dudes, of course.

All in all, I just absolutely love the Vanguard class, because each skill synergizes with each other. The charge gets you straight into the fray immediately, while doing massive damage to your target. Then you have the shotgun that does a large chunk of damage in an area. The pull gives you a shield to absorb any damage you will be taking and overload after the pull just decimates clouds of weak ships. Plus the passive of increasing weapon damage the closer you are to the enemy.

I haven't played much marauder, but sharpshooter to me is the weakest class simply due to how much harder it is to keep enemies at range compared to being close to them. Even with chase cam focusing on an enemy, I'm constantly thinking while playing sharpshooter. I'm thinking about the speed of my ship, the speed of the enemy ship, what angle to fly my ship to keep the enemy within range of my guns, the actual range of my guns, etc etc. Its much more difficult to get the best out of your passive than vanguard.

This could be remedied by changing the passive to increase light and heavy weapon range by, maybe 500 or 1,000 meters? That way you're outside the enemy's weapon range, but still able to hit the enemy like a real sharpshooter would.

1. Vanguard, because it is well rounded
2 & 6. Hybrid vanguard / marauder
3. Sharpshooter : weak skills, uneasy to keep hostiles at range.
4. Shotgun, it is versatile
5. Precision shot : very weak, and not even long range
7. shotgun 8, expose 8, pull 6, execute 3
8&9. Of course

My general feeling is the vast majority of skills have pitiful range - I mean late game you will fly ships with 5000 light gun range, 6000-7000 heavy gun range, but you can have skills at 1500 ?!

1: Marauder. Like the cloak, execute, and crit chance so you don't have to think so much on distance. Hatred 3 with railgun perks and artemis III upgrade chew through dreads like they're made of wet paper :D
2:Hybrid
3: Don't really have one. They all have something nice and I think the hybrid stuff is the best thing you could've done.
4: Have to go with cloak. That thing have saved me from hubris several times:P
5: I most certainly am.
6: I am currently using Marauder passive, Cloak, Precision shot, Shotgun, and Execute. All lvl 5+ though I upgraded precision highest. Like the high damage and the jumps it does. It also aren't dependent on range as far as I can tell.
7: Yup.
8: At the gladiatrix quartermaster. Win and get one for free ;)

EDIT: Actually something that comes to mind regarding skills is the lack of information on the passives. How much crit chance do you get? What amount of extra damage to you get from 0 distance as a vanguard? stuff like that.

1.Its hard to say have 2 of them( only because i cant see crit stat with all buf =__=).
2.Maroder/Vanguard.
3.Sharpshooter low dmg and AOE for skill, and i dont know ship that have a good back side turret power to keep good range with enemy.
4.Shoutgun, best skill for any battle for now.
5. Sharpshooter skill and all Ult skill to low dmg for high lvl as for me.
6.Yes.
7.Expose 10, Shotgun 10(best skill to kill someone from my experience), pull(Its not skill its my nine lives which i stole from neighbor cat :D) 7 or 8 not remmeber(43lvl+all artifacts) and rotation of ult(after Execute nerf more than on 50% dmg cant find wich of them better).
8. Yes.
9. Yes.
From my point of view all real progres of mission and usability of ult skill end at 20-25lvl when fight enemy dread+ is common encounter. Tonight capture almost all map(only baeldor wait for his turn) and usability of almost all skil on proxy is low. Sharpshooter ult have effect only if i let enemy come close to proxy and then from max range use it. Vanguar ult have effect only for ship Frigate and lesser class. Maroder now need enemy of 30%hp to kill and shoutgun do it better. So for now i cant see difference of what skill i have on 4.
Also i cant chose between maroder and vanguard passive skill, and its simple i cant see real crit chance for my gun and dont know the exact increase from vanguard =__=.
Well for most time Expose is main for 1 but sometimes i switch it to shutdown, and this to simple i dont understand Expose up my dmg or not(cant see real up for dps when use it) and if time of debuf is longer then cd so double use will double effect or extends duration?
Horrorman Apr 29, 2017 @ 5:01am
I switched around a few times. Started with Vanguard. Now I´m at Marauder, because I like the passive it has to have an additional chance to deal critical damage with light weapaons, with mixed up skills from all classes.

1. Marauder (see above...)
2. Marauder hybrid
3. all classes have some good and some not usefull in their group
4. It turned out its Execute - shields gone on enemy it can 1 hit kill capitals :P
5. see 3 :)
6. Yes
7. Shotgun lvl 10 - Holo decoy lvl 7 - Exxpose lvl 7 - Execute lvl 8
8. Yep a few times now hehe :P
9. Gladiatrix

I stll change or switch from now and than I think, just to get out the best from all.

1. What is your favorite class and why?
Vangaurd in terms of bonus. And why? Because 99% of the fighting I'm almost ramming the other ship thus finding it the most suitable for it.
2. What is your current class you're playing with?
Vanguard.
3. What is your least favorite class and why?
Sharpshooter - I never felt anything of that bonus, but well then again it's not related to my playstyle of ramming the opponent and flying around him in CQB.
4. What is your favorite skill and why?
Shotgun - does wonders to the enemy shields. And Execute because well, nothing nicer than oneshotting people after dropping their shield and hull a bit.
5. What is your least favorite skill and why?
Hmm, think it's that push ability from the Sharpshooter, always found it useless.
6.Are you playing a hybrid class?
Yes.
7. What skills do you have and on what levels?
Vanguard class. Shotgun - max, Cloak - max, Disable - 5-6(I think), Execute - (not sure, my char is level 38 tho).
8. Have you ever respec your character to a different class / skills?
Yes, I went from the Sharpshooter to a hybrid noted above.
9. Do you know where you can go to respec your character?
Yes, Gladiatrix.

I don't have any strong feelings about the classes/skills. They are good and they do what they're supposed to do.

I do play a hybrid class, but I wasn't aware of the ability to respec until stumbling across that information on a forum thread. I think part of that has to do with the visual presentation of the Quartermaster. The Gladiatrix is blue, the Nebula in the starting area is blue, the planet nearby is blue, and the Quartermaster is a blue ship surrounded by blue ships next to a blue building...

In short, everything blends in and there's nothing to indicate to the player that "this npc is different".

I suggest 2 things:

1. The Quartermaster offers a quest to partake in the arena, so an Encounter Mission marker on the map seems like an appropriate way to draw the player's attention to the Quartermaster. The Encounter Mission can even follow the same format as other Encounter Missions that prompt the player to Hail a friendly npc.

2. Make him a green npc (yes, yes, I know, he's neutral for a story-telling/world building reason. But, for a better visual clue, being blue doesn't help).

I don't think the player really sees any bright green NPCs at the beginning of the game. Having a green dot appear on the mini-map amongst the blue and yellow dots should also pique the player's curiosity to interact with the Quartermaster.

1. Marauder class - for cloak/stealth "Ambush Tactic", and the 3 other damage categories, suits my combat 'style': stealth and distance BEFORE the melee.

2. Marauder.

3. Haven't used Sharpshooter yet. The only skill in the Vanguard class that I used was the Shotgun skill. The others didn't/don't suit my combat 'style', so therfore, I didn't boost their utility.

4. Cloak/Stealth because cloak/stealth! :steamhappy:

5. Vanguard - The other three skill sets in the Vanguard class (less Shotgun) are/were superfluous to my long range, then short range/melee style of combat engagements.

6. No hybrids attempted at this writing.

7. In the current iteration (w/ 0.903.0 installed), I'm using the Marauder-class skill set. I've all four skills leveled at 3, across the board.

8. Nope, not yet.

9. Jes! Get to go play with the QM folks! :steamhappy:

1: Sharpshooter, I love going circles around the enemy at long range, and I prefer smaller class ships, Frigate was my fav because I love stacking resistances if I can, maintain speed and avoidance, yet decent firepower. Sharpshooter is the only class that allows this to be viable.

2: Sharpshooter.

3: Sharpshooter Ironically. Outside Snipe, the entire tree is useless. Even though this is the main class I played I had to load the GAME to remember one of the skills. It is that useless. Decoy is -that- bad.

4. Snipe, Though I only recently unlocked its ability to bounce, which dosen't seem to do anything at all honestly. It early game was outranging my enemies is the primary reason I liked this ability. It is the ONLY ABILITY in the game that benefits long range. Yet ironically gets outranged later on anyway.

5. Holo Decoy, It flys, gets shot, dies. This is the ability I completely forgot about as I just use it because... Its there. This abilty is just bad in every reguard.

Push backs pretty bad too, but its secondary effect makes up for it as a benefit to the actual class idea. But it too is pretty bad. Gotta be CCed first before I use this ability.

6. Didn't know hybrid existed. Still most abilites are short ranged, I think cloak is the only thing I would pick up.

7. All into snipe, no other ability is worth points in this tree. I did a lot of exploring so my snipe was ahead of where it should be, which is probally why I have had a lot more fun with this class than others.

8. No

9. I looked, didn't find where honestly, but I still got a lot more to explore skill, and I only recently starting playing.

___

Personally I think a "better" at range class is just detrimental to the current design of the game, make it too good we can just kite entire fleets and destroy them single handedly in a gunship.

I would redesign those abilities around a speed tank, Deflector based on the gravity ability, Decoy would work with this idea in mind if it keeps up with you and gains the defenses of avoidance, snipe can prettymuch stay the same even without a damage boost if it instead lowered enemy acc perhaps. And the finisher, Well I dunno what to do with that finisher in this case.

Just recommendation of course, but it would fix needing to program long range AI into the masters as well as fit the style the games going for. Make it a smaller craft specialization.

just stumbled uppon this old discussion

My Question: Did the devs already change the Sharpshooter so its not that useless anymore?
Geek Aug 28, 2017 @ 4:25am
There have been siginificant changes to the classes. Precision shot is good now as well as the passive sharpshooter bonus.
