Hints on making money?
I have only recently begun playing, and I am doing the campaign. I am wondering how to make a good amount of cash however. Missions net only 300-400k most of the time, so for a frigate, I'd have to do 10+ missions, seems a bit much. I can build frigates but I didn't see any option to use a ship you build for yourself. Boarding used to be extremely good cash back in SG 2, but so far most ships were worth only 100 to 200k, once I got a somewhat bigger ship for like 350k. And while you don't have to buy troopers anymore, you now have an immense fail chance most of the time, especially if you tackle bigger ships it seems. I haven't really looked into trading so far, besides picking up some loot from fights or asteroids and selling that. But even a full hold often nets only like 50k or so, so at the moment I can't really see getting rich by trading.
I have seen the tax collector perk, but I don't have that many areas under control and getting like 1-2k per week hardly seems worth it.

While not having super-much money easily is a good thing, I am currently wondering how much grinding you will need to do to get a dreadnaught or somesuch.

Do you guys have any hints on making money?

Well, if you mind doing a few missions for a Frigate, I can only suggest you edit the save really.
BTW trading and selling random loot is not the same thing... not at all.

I have now played a bit more. The best thing for making money seems to progress a bit and then either do difficult missions (you will probaby need to take a fleet with you for that) but those can net 2 million. Like warmaster hunts etc. Or do captures on larger ships. Freightliners seem to be especially tempting targets, as they don't shoot too much, and are (for their huge size) easy to board and capture. One freightliner might be worth as much as 4.5 million.

Outside of trading, i think the best thing to do(if you spec that way, at least) is to cap dreadnoughts and carriers, put them in your garage and then sell them when you get back to a starbase. Iirc, it costs 4.5 million to repair them and they sell for 19 million.

Capture and board everything.

Or, get a frigate maxxed out and do the first Gladiatrix... just repeat the championship match over and over and over ($1M each win). Or get a maxxed out Cruiser and do it at the second Gladiatrix (in the asteroid field) - just stick to the champions belly (no turrets) and blow him to bits ($2.5m per win).

Warmaster freelance missions and Fleet Installation Defense missions.
Also as Depresso said, Gladiatrix is good for money making.

Invest perks (Pirate ones and Negotiation) and resources to research boarding armor and angel, along with perks and this, you'll have a lot easier time capturing ships.

Oh, and repair T-gates... I was getting (I think) 10 million each gate repaired.
depresso Jun 5, 2017 @ 5:06am
Addendum: Money you get from gates varies on locations (Some I was getting 3 mil, others 12 mil).
Went from 30 mil in the bank to 90+ mil (and I'm in a Carrier already) within a month (its civilian fleet work).

Was about to ask the same question because i was afraid you HAD to capture ships like in Starpoint Gemini 2 to make decent cash and i hated that concept.

Oh yes I completely forgot about this. I remembered it late game when I had 10 mils, and I just spammed all the gates and wormholes to get fixed and viola, 130 mils in the bank lol.

trading ferilizer and exosuit from feruz to thauria works well, don't be affraid to invest in a freightliner, the invest is rentabilized pretty fast ^^

buy t jump items everywhere you go. use them to jump from timed delivery mission to timed delivery mission. Tons and TONS of xp/free money. at a very rapid pace(about 20-30sec per run with t drives). when boredome of that sets in...fight an underleveled seek and destroy mission and capture the ship. Put all perk points into ship capture increases. By lvl 28 you should have a 7%-25% shot at capturing weaker dreadnoughts from the seek and destroy missions around that lvl. 1 dreadnought sell is 10m. or keep the ship and arm it to all hell. Can solo dreadnought in a single cruiser class ship geared out in researched tier 2 enhancements.

Oh another thing...you can park outside of your base. Walk away from pc for like a day Eventually come back to a ♥♥♥♥ load of resources from weekly haul. Dont worry. the ai in this game is highly flaccid. Your ♥♥♥♥ will be safe. And a simple save can ensure you dont lose progress.

Capturing ships so far seems to be the ONLY real valid way to make money in this version as well. Everything else I tried so far fell short by comparison.

once you repair your T-Gate check out trade runs between concorida and Iolia, you can trade items both ways and make something around 10m/min if you hustle, or just 10m per run however long it takes you (using a 2200 cargo freightliner).
ReaperLord Jun 6, 2017 @ 1:14am
Get control of Concordia station, research how to build T-Gates, explore all areas of the map, become allies with factions that have open wormholes or inactive t-gates. Then, use your civilian fleets to build or repair your allies' T-gates. Repairing a T-gate will give you over 2 million credits, while building the T-gate will giver you over 10 million credits. Also, while you are allied with the various factions, call their ambassador and ask if theirs anything you can do for them.

Also, spend resources and perk points improving your ability to board ships. Hijack enemy ships and sell them as long as you can. You might also want to take each tax collector rank and conquer several regions and then idle the game whenever you are away from your computer.
