Spelunky starts off as a brutal platformer with high levels of randomness. Over time you gain a borderline-innate sense of how everything will interact, and the game becomes like a 2d Sokoban puzzler where you control the board through gravity and time. It's absolutely brilliant and there's nothing else like it.

It's been 10 years since I first beat hell in HD, and I have waited a very long time for Spelunky 2. But then I got it, and realised that it only serves to put you on the same journey as the first game. I've found this game to be super disappointing, despite being an obvious improvement over the first. I wish I liked it more, and I've tried repeatedly to get into it over the last 3 years, but it really just is more of the same. It's a bummer.

This is a very specific problem and if you haven't beaten Spelunky 1, this is an 11/10 masterpiece of clockwork game design. I just can't recommend it to anyone who's already beaten the first game.
