Having issues with constant syncing in online coop? [CLICK HERE!] [PC players only]

The Problem

Many people have been having issues getting stuck on syncing between levels. The only workaround most people have found is using shift-tab or alt-tab every time they get stuck which has tendency to cause the game to freeze for someone/break the multiplayer session. It also is incredibly annoying to do often when playing on controller and you want to lean back. It didn't use to do this in earlier versions of the game prior to cross platform play. Therefore...

The Solution

Rollback your game to an earlier version. The developer doesn't easily let you do this through the properties menu in your library but you can download packages through the Steam command line interface. First off, you'll use (Windows + R) to bring up the run dialog and type in steam://open/console

Once the Steam command line is open, you'll need to enter 2 lines
Make sure to let the operation of one finish before doing the other:

For the main executable

download_depot 418530 418531 1403623649689474849

For the other 15 necessary files

download_depot 418530 418532 6903647560317421115

Once run, it will display right after the command you entered the file path that it downloaded to. Open up those file paths and copy/replace the downloaded files to the root folder of your Spelunky 2 install in (Should be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Spelunky 2).

You'll likely also want to turn off automatic updates in the properties menu for Spelunky 2 on Steam so it does not immediately put you back to version 1.28 or whatever the current release is.

Once done your version of Spelunky 2 should be downgraded to version 1.25.0 (you can verify at the top-right corner of the main menu screen on launch) which is a few minor patches before the big cross platform update. Enjoy a much smoother online coop experience once again!

If you want to use this coop fix with Playlunky (custom skins, mods, etc), it has no version to support 1.25.0, but did have a version for 1.25.0b. For the first depot entry above (the main executable), if you instead use:

You'll be able to use the 1.25.0b version of the game, compatible with Playlunky 1.12.1. All the other instructions are as normal.
