Duat Salt
Im extremely disappointed with Duat. Tidepool is objectively the easier stage. I really wish they gave us more reason to go to Duat outside of high score runs. Is this on purpose?

Temple has alien compass, so there's that. And also guaranteed Kali Altar in City of Gold I guess.

Alien compass is so good on CO that it is worth the risk (IF you manage to do Quilin Skip ... because i agree with patricio, Duat is HELL).

Nope, going Temple is objectively worse outside of score, alien compass is mildly useful in CO but you'll find yourself looking for bubbles more often than the exit

The only benefits I can think of by going the Temple route is City of Gold and Alien Compass. Even then, you could still do Qilin skip and never have to go to Duat at all. The only other reason I would justify going to Duat is if you want a challenge.

Duat is head and shoulder above Abzu in terms of looks. Reason enough for me to go there.

If you have 32+ favor for Kali you get a free powerpack there though, still excruciatingly difficult.

Duat is quite a simple stage once you have gotten used to it. If you have the Kapala you can get 10+ health if you whip the Ammit monsters repeatedly and then dodge them.
Osiris is very predictable and the fight can be fudged quite easily. Anubis II can be dealt with using a quick sticky bomb before he has any time to attack as well.

I think the biggest hazard is probably Apep but it is easy to tell where he will spawn based on the geometry of the level (lots of skulls will be piled up as well as lava pits).

With that said, I do agree that Tide Pool is the easier choice by far. The secret level can be tough if you don’t have enough resources or Excalibur though.

Temple has the crush traps which can be a lot to deal with when there’s lots of enemies around. I still can’t get over the fact that the Croc Men can telefrag you which is instant death, was the same in Spelunky HD. I just don’t even mess with those guys if I can help it.

Many of the temple monsters acquire the player as a target from extreme range and through walls (sorceresses, necromancers) or go into dangerous, near-permanent aggro when they spot you (croc men, curse cats).

Most of the tide pool monsters forget about you once you're off screen.
