Spelunky 3 will be released one week after Halflife 3 and Witcher 4.

I couldn't see it happening any time soon. It almost seems like Spelunky 2 was designed to be an overhaul/ upgrade of the original rather than a full on whole new experience. My guess is if there was a third game it would be like 10 years from now, maybe longer but I could be wrong. Like someone mentioned, you have to imagine working on the same game series for so long might become boring or not as interesting a challenge for Derek. I also think this game was designed to be the ultimate Spelunky experience so another might not even be on his mind. I'm sure he must have so many ideas he's never had a chance to try out, I would personally try anything he creates now, but Spelunky 3 would be amazing some day.

My hope is that they finally offer official mod support, I bet people will make all kinds of amazing game modes and spiritual successors.

If they were to make a sequel, I think rather than making a choice between volcanna and Jungle, such things would be randomised. Frankly I was a bit disappointed it wasn't already like that.

Also if another ending is as difficult to reach as CO, it better have a more bombastic and fun ending than the weak .jpeg ending we currently get.

With that said, I doubt we'll get a sequel for some time (if at all); Derek likely wants to make more games, I'm interested to see how that minigame compilation comes out when they finally release it.
