Is it me or are the controls whacky?
I don't even know how to describe it, sometimes it feels like I stopped pressing D-pad, but the character is still running for just a millisecond and it's very annoying
Or there are moments when you need to stop in a particular place but the character always ends up being a bit to the right or to the left. I know there's a WALK button, but I feel like such situations should be possible to handle with running
I was thinking for some time that the problem was in my controller, but when I tried to play with a different one, the problem was still there
Also I wish there was a separate button for picking up the items, it would save me a lot of runs
Is anyone else experiencing it?

The game does have some issues with the XBox controller, yes. Sometimes some of my inputs get swallowed and then i whip instead of picking something up for example and other things.
It is 100% the games fault, cause my controller works fine on other games. So if you have a XBox controller, that might be why.

Controls are fine for me. But be sure to use a D-pad or a keyboard or something. There's no stick sensitivity from what i know, and people have reported incorrect inputs occuring due to sticks..

I do find the platforming to be a bit slippery at times though, admittedly. You pretty much go zoom-zoom with little control when running, and a single tiny mistake can litterally end your 40+ minute run. Not fun. Oh well, with experience and practice, the controls aren't THAT bad, thankfully.

Suppose you mainly have to be careful, where you go, the game isn't too difficult with platforming from what i know, although very punishing if you do mess it up.
I'd suggest sticking to auto-run and only using walk for precision stuff or for hanging on ledges (by walking off them and into them as you drop).

Oh, and if you're new regarding the controls, you can dismount mounts with down+jump (typically while standing) or up+jump (jump off the mount, handy for a triple jump), and down+interact/door seems to drop any back item (jetpacks/capes/etc) you're carrying, if you'd rather not have a explosive hazard on your back or God forbid, a telepack.

As I said in the post I don't think it has something to do with a controller, because I tried two different ones and nothing changed
I tried old Logitech controller and DualShock 4

I tried both analog and D-pad on different contollers and didn't notice any difference, though I haven't tried to play with a keyboard
In my opinion a platformer shouldn't have such controlls to which the player needs to get used, except if it's not trying to come up with a new mechanic or something, but Spelunky doesn't really differ from most of other platformers in that sense

And concerning the down+interuct, I don't have much difficulty handling turkeys, it's just I think some of the actions such as the pick up could be bound to L1 or L2 since they're empty instead of using a combination of two buttons

Hm... Yeah to be fair i wouldn't mind a optional designated pickup button either. So many times does one want to pick something up but end up whipping instead (often the poor critter you're trying to catch for +1 health). And it's physically impossible to pick up anything standing on a ladder as down/up climbing takes priority over crouching.

That said, i wouldn't do away with the old pickup button, but having an extra one designed exclusively for picking things up would make some things less troublesome. Especially on said ladders or if you cannot afford to risk whipping it. Not like the AI needs to crouch to grab either, to my knowlege, if you ever freed a hired hand.

Sounds like you've got input lag issues there. If you have an Nvidia GPU, go to the game's profile in the Nvidia Control Panel and enable Low Latency Mode. Also you could try using Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS) to limit the game's FPS to 60 as this usually cuts out a lot of lag.

Personally I find the controls to be perfect and super responsive. Using d-pad with 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ and Benq 144hz monitor for extra smoothness.

Hmm, I tried it, but not sure if it helped, I'm too burned out with this game to compare the difference

do you have auto run enabled? when i had it on it felt like my character moves too far when i wanted to move a tiny bit

I was about to post a similar thread. I'm using a wired xbox 360 controller (left stick for motion) on linux. Here's my experience:
a) diagonals are *super tight* to pull of. Getting off a ledge slowly is a pain, and I've died too many times on Quilback's ladders because my input would either turn into a vertical input and not reach the ladder or horizontal and it won't grab the ladder.
b) controls do feel *heavy*. For such a game that demands skill, I'd expect the controls to be more responsive/crisp than this.

Not sure what's going on, I'll try to mess with monitor settings and report back.

So, I've disabled some of the monitor's game mode & sync stuff, used big picture and now the situation has improved quite a bit; I feel more in control and jumping feels better, even the diagonals work better!

There may be even more window compositor settings to tweak, but at least now it's enjoyable.
