It is 100% the games fault, cause my controller works fine on other games. So if you have a XBox controller, that might be why.
I do find the platforming to be a bit slippery at times though, admittedly. You pretty much go zoom-zoom with little control when running, and a single tiny mistake can litterally end your 40+ minute run. Not fun. Oh well, with experience and practice, the controls aren't THAT bad, thankfully.
Suppose you mainly have to be careful, where you go, the game isn't too difficult with platforming from what i know, although very punishing if you do mess it up.
I'd suggest sticking to auto-run and only using walk for precision stuff or for hanging on ledges (by walking off them and into them as you drop).
Oh, and if you're new regarding the controls, you can dismount mounts with down+jump (typically while standing) or up+jump (jump off the mount, handy for a triple jump), and down+interact/door seems to drop any back item (jetpacks/capes/etc) you're carrying, if you'd rather not have a explosive hazard on your back or God forbid, a telepack.
I tried old Logitech controller and DualShock 4
In my opinion a platformer shouldn't have such controlls to which the player needs to get used, except if it's not trying to come up with a new mechanic or something, but Spelunky doesn't really differ from most of other platformers in that sense
And concerning the down+interuct, I don't have much difficulty handling turkeys, it's just I think some of the actions such as the pick up could be bound to L1 or L2 since they're empty instead of using a combination of two buttons
That said, i wouldn't do away with the old pickup button, but having an extra one designed exclusively for picking things up would make some things less troublesome. Especially on said ladders or if you cannot afford to risk whipping it. Not like the AI needs to crouch to grab either, to my knowlege, if you ever freed a hired hand.
a) diagonals are *super tight* to pull of. Getting off a ledge slowly is a pain, and I've died too many times on Quilback's ladders because my input would either turn into a vertical input and not reach the ladder or horizontal and it won't grab the ladder.
b) controls do feel *heavy*. For such a game that demands skill, I'd expect the controls to be more responsive/crisp than this.
Not sure what's going on, I'll try to mess with monitor settings and report back.
So, I've disabled some of the monitor's game mode & sync stuff, used big picture and now the situation has improved quite a bit; I feel more in control and jumping feels better, even the diagonals work better!
There may be even more window compositor settings to tweak, but at least now it's enjoyable.
