You can get it with just 3 bombs by cheesing Olmec.

No. Theres alot of ways to cheese things in this game. Things like:

-getting a shotgun right before last regular boss (100% chance)
-easily killing quillback
-guaranteed killing Madame tusk (100%) chance, to get a shotgun

etc.

Honestly it's not a bad idea to try the fight without any special tools. Olmec CAN be beaten with the whip alone. Well, you MIGHT need Vlad's Cape, since you need to whip those hover things, I'm not sure if your normal jump can allow you to reach them... I always have the cape when I get to that fight.

Also it's more entertaining that way. I've been practicing at it and it's become my main way of dealing with it as I'm not often going to have a shotgun, and I dont really want to waste bombs on him. Or ropes even.

Just takes some practice.

It can be done with nothing, starting from the checkpoint. I can do it, but not as reliably as I'd like.

When I only have a whip as soon as the second phase starts I destroy 1 booster and leave the other at 1 HP, at this point you can just stay under him and bombs won't reach so it's easy, then I go up the ladder (Ideally you would be near it) and wait on top of olmec until 3:00, admitedlly without nothing the next part is kind of hard but you should be able to whip the remaining booster from the side and find a way of landing on where he fell without taking damage (There's enough space on his head to just tank the damage and not fall in lava but you will drop whatever you have). Though tbh if you went through volcana you should at least have a cape and if you go black market there's generally at least climbing gloves or something else
