On another note, do these playable characters function differently in some way so that the choice is meaningful or is it simply to provide cosmetic variety in character choice?
So, no functional difference then from one character to the other. Thanks for the info.
Any chance in the future we might see an option for a randomized group of songs per biome? Maybe pull some classics from the last game? I know I can listen to my own music, but I'm always worried when I do that I'll miss an important audio cue...
Thanks so much for making this game, enjoying the heck out of it so far!
Because music is very dynamic and changes a lot depending on the events you participate in, having multiple songs is not an option as each song has a lot of variations.
If you prefer having a wider range of songs, we recommend muting the music and turning on your own playlist while enjoying Spelunky 2.
All the stuff you'd have to do to get a Switch port working would probably make a Linux port or OpenGL/Vulkan version a lot easier, anyway.
I'm feel like the extra 30 seconds on the ghost makes this game a lot more enjoyable. I remember introducing the previous Splunky to my nephew and he loved it, but whenever the ghost showed up he'd scream for me to come into the room and take the controller from him; he was TERRIFIED of it!
Most (if not all) Switch ports we've worked on so far (even games that had an OpenGL backend) have been ported to NVN (the Nintendo Switch native graphics API) because of random stutterings when using OpenGL/Vulkan, so If we decide to port the game to a Nintendo Switch we won't use OpenGL/Vulkan.
You just make a folder called compatibilitytools.d under /.steam/root (found in your home directory on my distro) and drop in a folder containing the extracted contents of the latest Proton-TKG standalone package. (the zip called proton_tkg, not the other one)
Then of course under Splunky 2 settings you select the newly installed proton version for that game. Obviously nobody can guarantee it'll work forever after future updates, but updates breaking proton compatibility... Does that even happen? I've never had a that happen.

I really dislike this because for a game that needs to be replayed so much, it gets very boring and tiring listening to the same songs again and again. Spelunky HD had like 3 variations per level and it worked perfectly, it didn't get tiring because the songs changed almost every time.
I feel like this is a bad decision and should be revised, but I see it's probably not gonna change... :(
There aren't a ton of events in the first biome (unless I'm mistaken) and even if there were there was already cross-fading of tracks for shops in the last game. Just feels like it would be a huge positive change all around, if it's at all possible. Hope it will be considered at some point down the line.
