Do shop keepers have self destruct traps in their shops randomly?

Sometimes after getting rid of a shop keeper and then picking up the items he had on sale, the whole shop explodes and kills me.

I didn't notice that happening, however some items explode when shot and such.

Not randomly, no, but bomb bags/boxes and “-pack” items (jet pack, power pack, etc) will now explode if shot or caught in a bomb blast.

I think it's a really neat feature because robbing shops in Spelunky 1 could make some runs so easy when you could stack up on 50+ bombs and whatnot. Now good loot has a chance of being destroyed and makes the game feel much better balanced
