If it's like the first, it's using Xinput so you'll need an Xinput controller (nearly every modern controller should work) or to use a keymapper to be able to use it.

Pro controller wired works fine for me but I can't imagine it'd be much different wireless with Bluetooth. I did have to go into Big Picture mode and configure the controller to work and set the buttons correctly to the Nintendo Switch setup. I had to do the same thing with Fall Guys.

Go into BPM and enable pro controller support.

Hold Home, Picture, + and - together to make the computer recognize the Pro Controller as an XINPUT controller, this should fix it.

I cannot for the life of me get my two switch pro controllers to work for local couch co-op! Either of them will work just fine, and at the start screen I can use either to initiate player 1, thus locking the other controller out of controlling player 1. No matter what I do with controller configuration or settings (I long ago enabled switch pro controller support in steam, I've been using it for single player games for a long time), I can't get the second controller to activate player 2.

I also tried the XINPUT trick Egon mentioned but it only seemed to totally disable the controllers for use from in-game.

I'm using both controllers wired, and as mentioned, both of them work on their own.
Steam recognizes both of the controllers as there, and separate.

I have same problem as you, but i have 2 different controllers: DualSense and Logitech. Both of them recognized correctly by Steam, but both of them in local co-op trying to take control only over Player1, Player 2 is impossible to activate.
Tried Xinput and DirectInput for Logitech, and DS4Windows and Steam settings for DualSense. Result is same. DirectInput not even working.
Looks like devs forgot about whole multiplayer in this game...
Someone have found a solution for this case?
