That's not true, pass includes everything except the coins which are very optional anyway.
In my opinion is totally worth it, but it's better on sale as always :)
Well, each coin gives a particular boost to your stats. For example, there’s a defense coin that strengthens your block while another one speeds you up, and so on. I can’t say for sure if they’re useless or not in your case since I used them only through my second walktrough, but I have a vivid recollection of gameplay getting easier.
Moreover, you shouldn’t forget about coins when getting to your speedrun as after destroying 20 Mr. Everywhere you unlock the Walking Shoes increasing Ethan’s walking speed (the same goes for a crouched state). Combining it with the corresponding coin could give you a significant advantage.
However, it’s really important to know that there’s a DLC on Steam that includes the Universal Coin which increases all stats represented by every single coin separately, that is, it increases attack, defense, and knockback rate. You simply put it in the inventory, and it takes up only one block what makes it extremely useful. By the way, this coin can be stacked with other coins. Hereby I leave a link for you:

P.S. Yep, you really get all the story DLCs with the Season Pass, there’s no exception.
