How bad are the jump scares in this game?
I'm a bit weird that I actually really like survival horror games and I like the "exploration" aspect of them (scanning every corner, drawer, room, etc. for hidden keys, ammo, weapons, tools, etc.), also similar to why I liked the original Metal Gear Solid games.
I absolutely love the setting of the game as far as I can tell from the gameplay footage and how it goes back to the RE1-2 roots in terms of puzzling and exploring (I know the rest of the gameplay is different).
But I also have a phobia for jump scares ... like, legit, they don't just startle me, they actually freak me out and make me have to ragequit the game and then I have to prevent myself from getting a panic attack.
That said, I've played some horror games with jump scares that were still mild enough for me to play it through in a few sessions, how bad and frequent are the jump scares in RE7? Also the fact it's in first person doesn't really help because I imagine ♥♥♥♥ will just appear behind you out of the blue, or doesn't it happen that often?

Thanks in advance, just considering whether to get it for the Winter Sale or not.

The first segment, the guest house has a few, they are a main element there. There are only two or three later in the main house, and none really afterwards, unless you get scared by standard enemy spawn-ins or running into them while turning a corner.
You can get prepared for them after the guest house though: if you are about to pick up an obviously important item, you can expect something to come after you. This is even more telegraphed by the old house segment where you must traverse in the dark to get one of the main McGuffins; you can bet that monsters will jump on you after picking it up and starting your way back.

You know the part in RE1 where a dog jumps out of the fire? That stuff already makes me have to put the controller down and take a break. So by spawn-ins and running into them around corners, is it similar to that? Or less startling?
All non-boss enemies in this game are molded and spawn from large piles of black goo. The only exceptions are the first four-legged crawler that bursts through a wall as you approach it and the large white ones in the Not a Hero DLC. The ones that do not spawn from the black masses essentially "grow" from the ground in a roughly 1-second animation.

Although at this point it would be easier if you watched a let's play up until the first shadow puzzle and determine it for yourself. Takes around an hour at most.
Its trouser filling scarey... Sorry, but its Huggies all round
there is quite the fair ammount of cheap jump scares provided by Jack and Marguerite.
Jumpscares? I have beaten this game, the only thing that kind of pops out are the molded.
this game is pretty good at jumpscares lol.
Jack crushing trough wall is optional and its very efective for first time
Margarite boss fight is homage to evil dead 2

You must have a very different take on what constitutes a jumpscare.
Mia's first attack? Marguerite on the staircase? Jack when taking the final Dog Head?
None of those were jumpscares.....what I consider a jumpscare is definitely different.
Amount of scares in this game = 0
Honestly the people saying this game isn't scary are playing it with a predetermined attitude of trying not to be scared lol. If you go in to any sort of horror game with the intent of not being scared and separate yourself from it to that degree to sound "tough" then that's fine, but don't post it off as if it's a fact.

This game is pretty damn scary if you ask me. The guest house was probably the worst for me, along with the ship.
Ok if cheap JUMP SCARES is a thing for you than yeah, because the fpp camera they can suprise you but nothing besides that thats why Remastered 1 and 2 is much more popular than this one and they doing now remastered RES3 Not Res 8

I have BEATEN this game. It is definitely scary, but jumpscares have to be “HI IM HERE NOW AND IN YOUR FACE” in order to even make me jump. It’s super gorey if anything.

I can think of two occasions in the game that clarify as what you would call a jump scare. I like jump scares if they're done well. But horror comes in many forms. It doesn't always have to be a jump scare. Tension, dread, claustrophobia, these are all awesome forms of horror. I'd say this game nails it's atmosphere really well.

But I won't deny that the last third of the game definitely loses some of it's momentum. The ship scared me senseless though, I was jumping at every sound.
