Are there weapon upgrades/customizations?

My favorite part of RE4 was the weapon customization, is there any system like that in this game?

No. Your weapon can not been change.
For some of them you can use different types of ammo. Also the game have additional weapons that require repair.

Two of the weapons in the game can be "upgraded" to a stronger version via repair kits. It's not really an upgrade in that you actually get a new weapon, but it's the same concept more or less.

In general, though, RE7 is nothing like RE4.

If you want RE4-ish gameplay, you'll likely enjoy RE5, RE6 (maybe), and the Revelations spin-off series.

The full game does have it. Besides 4 and 5, the other RE games that have weapon upgrades are Revelations 1 & 2, however it's a different system, instead of permanent upgrades you get custom parts you can equip/unequip into different weapon slots.

RE5 is so much about weapon upgrades that several higher-grade weapons only appear in the game once you fully upgraded certain other ones.
