Madhouse is insane
I recently started Madhouse and it's pretty freaking intense.

Right now my biggest problem is replaying huge chunks of the game because of the limited save system. I decided to save once I got into the first safe room before the first Jack bossfight. Got no problem beating him, but getting my butt handed to me every time I get into the main house hallway, and every time I have to watch the cop get killed and replay the bossfight.

How generous is madhouse with save tapes? Cause I'm about to break and save again right after the bossfight, which is a bit of a waste.

You get more than enough tapes.

Also you can cheese the hell out of Jack to conserve ammo.
Block his first attack, then crouch and knife his leg, while circling around him. Try to stay behind his back.

Hardest boss in the entire game is probably Mia in the guest house, rest is rather easy.

hm, I have a feeling he randomly grabs me, which is an unblockable attack

If you buy the scorpion key, you'll never need to go upstairs while Jack is there, or bother with him in the main house at all after the garage fight. When you get the dissection room key and trigger his cutscene (where he grabs the dog head from the shelf), he'll be gone from the main house and you're free to go up and collect everything. It would also be a decent time to use your psychostimulants.

Thanks.
Just got to know that even getting caught as Mia in the tape is a true game over, which is kinda stupid if you ask me

You don't have to watch the tape.

The main thing that made MH manageable for me was the block button. I never used it on Normal and I had no idea how powerful it was. It makes a lot of the moldie encounters and some of the boss fights almost too easy.

And then I recommend at least one run with infinite ammo so you can have the catharsis of speedrunning the hardest mode like Kool-Aid man through a brick wall.

yeah I'm using the block quite a lot now.
still the regular molded take way too many hits before going down

The crawler moldies really pissed me off.

Something I wish I'd known my first time through is the game gives you plenty of cassette tapes. When you find out that saves are limited it's a little intimidating, but unless you were saving every time you mixed a first aid kit, you can probably save just as frequently on MH as you did on Normal. At the least you can afford to save every time you clear something you don't want to do twice.

There are 29 or 30 tapes in total, although it is spread between Ethan and Mia, naturally. The safest approach is to save after every major event: right before the garage fight, after buying the crow key and reaching the save room next to the cellar entrance, after the basemant Jack fight, before going to the old house, after opening the old house secret corridor, after getting the raven key, before going to the greenhouse, after the Marguerite fight, before entering the barn, before the barn fat mold fight, after doing the birthday puzzle, before the Jack fight, at the first ship save point before the Mia tape, after the Mia tape, after fixing the elevator, when reaching the first save point with Ethan, and before reentering the guest house.
Plus several saves for scavenge hunt for ammo and resources. Usually it is a good time to go through the house after the basement fight and the old house/greenhouse after killing Marguerite.

thanks. any advice on fighting regular molded? or should I just avoid them?

On madhouse, you can get the better shotgun fast (you can leave the house quite early since you get the crow key at the start, and the repair kit is right where a coin used to be, behind the metal plank and under the house once you exit to the courtyard), and a headshot still kills them. You can run past most of them with strategic blocking. You can find plenty enough healing items, but you must hone your skills to avoid them in narrow corridors.

So, just avoid the bipedal ones and use enhanced handgun ammo to headshot the crawlers. Be very careful with crawlers since they have a leap attack that kills you instantly on madhouse since it does 1500+ damage (you can have only 1400 HP with all steroids).

Avoid the fat guys. The two one in the mines are the only actual nightmare on madhouse even for those who are good at it. You need a flame round from the grenade launcher to clear the ladder and pray that one neuro round will stun them long enough. The two ones in the early areas of the ship are on a strict patrol route, so only needs patience or diving through one of the side doors to make them despawn temporarily.
The barn fight is easy as long as you stock up on ammo and know how to unload all weapons at once and reload them while the second stumbles forward.

Essentially, if you have to fight, unload everything until it is dead, then use the respite to reload. The only base enemies you have to kill are the crawlers, maybe one molded in the basement, the ones you meet near the lift in the ship S2 level, and the ones in the final climbing gauntlet of the mines. All others can be avoided.

dam I hate avoiding stuff in Resident Evil >_<
I know it's part of the game though, glad you're not killing everything like in 4-6

Honestly, I had enough ammo to kill nearly everything in the main house. There were a couple enemies I let be, but it's doable if you don't waste your shots. Even on Madhouse, the game gives you plenty of supplies, as long as you're careful with them.
