They still count as a healing item though, despite the much reduced healing effect.
two things I suggest:
1) don't use chem fluid with gun powder to get handgun ammo. conserve your handgun ammo and convert it into enhanced ammo by combining it with the gun powder.
2) use the separation fluid to get normal chem fluid from any leftover flamethrower ammo after you beat the old house. the flamethrower is only really useful there
