Frame cap above 60fps?
I need to find a way to cap fps within my refresh rate without using V-Sync. If I set frames to variable, my frames go close to 200 even maxed out and it will go to 700+ on loading screens, putting an unnecessary strain on my GPU ( I can hear it buzz). Even setting the refresh rate to match my monitor, it will ignore it.

Raising the Resolution Scale will drop my frames at a more reasonable rate and it also makes the game look very nice, but it's constantly pushing my GPU at 100% at almost 70c. I don't want to kill it.

I'm playing at 1440p on a G-Sync monitor.

You can limit the framerate with a simple profile in both Nvidia or AMD control panels. You can also just use MSI Afterburner to set a framerate cap.

Nah. It's not bothering me at all. It's actually kind of funny (and a bit pathetic) to see him get so worked up over nothing.

Anyway, my question was answered. I'm happy and I know what I need to know now. I played around with Afterburner too and found very useful settings to put a limit in how hot the card can get, and also make my own fan curve.

Have a good one!
If you're limiting a 1080 Ti to below 70c, you may as well not have spent the money on it. You're not getting the performance you paid for by doing that.

I know, but I'm "only" playing at 1440p. There is really nothing more I can do with games to unlock all the card's power after maxing everything out, other than unlock frames. Problem is that when I do this, this card will exceed my monitor's refresh rate. Some games are good enough to let you set a custom fps limiter, others like this game either let you choose 60fps, or full unlock. Setting the game at my monitor's refresh rate doesn't seem to put a cap at that rate like I have noticed in other games.

My other PC with a 1070 struggles a bit at 1440p. Can't max out recent AAA games like when playing at 1080p without having very noticeable performance drops.

Do... do you think the framerate going above the refresh rate is a BAD thing somehow? It's really not. Even on a 60hz monitor, going above 60fps is better than being directly at 60.

Screen tearing bothers me a bit. It's not a bad thing, I guess, I just find it visually unpleasant.

Nvidia still does not have a framerate limiter in the control panel? They are usually faster stealing AMD's patents and ideas, it has been there in AMD's solution for over a year now.
At any rate, then use Riva Tuner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raEg3GiT57I

Tearing is from sub refresh rate framerates or desync with a framerate locked at the refresh rate. Going above refresh does NOT cause tearing. :cfacepalm:

I am really confused. I had a 60hz monitor paired up with a gtx970 once. When frames were unlocked I would go above the refresh rate and get really bad tearing. This was not noticeable when at or under 60fps. I got another monitor, this time a 144hz one. Even though I rarely hit 144fps (even after upgrading to a gtx1070), I would get very little to no tearing.

I now got a 165hz G-Sync monitor with a new build and it seems to have fixed all my tearing problems.

I still need to look into it more though. It's really bothering me not knowing certain things...

The entire point of Gsync is to eliminate tearing. So as long as it is working, framerate with a game engine that can take variable framerate should never be an issue.

I wen't through the Nvidia forums and all their G-Sync threads. I have learned so much today. I was doing it wrong this whole time. After following their suggestions on how to get the best out of G-Sync and my hardware, I can't believe how much of a difference I can see now.

My game runs even smoother, no tearing, no stutter and most important; no input lag. I love this!
