RWBY: Grimm Eclipse
Am I the only one who hates Casey Lee's voice?
I can't stand her voice. 99% of the time it is way, waaaaaaaaaay too high-pitched.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with her ability to sing. The problem is with how she uses that ability - like her voice never matching the instrumentals or the genre of the song she's singing, and even a wrong pitch and volume obscuring every note and battering the lyrics.

Most of the time I feel like I'm hearing a broken accordion rather than a human being.

All she needs is some singing lessons from a professional female rock vocalist, like Lzzy Hale or Amy Lee. Just one week with one of them would be able to fix her pitch, and improve other elements of her singing tenfold.

Casey Lee Williams sounds like a Goddess, and she makes better music, with Jeff Williams, than Reba, 1Direction, and such do!1

One of the best duo songs was I may Fall from the V1 SoundTrack (I don't really like the Remixes like the I May Fall Remix that the V4 SoundTrack has). And the best Casey Lee Williams song is This Life is Mine, and the best Jeff Williams song is Lusus Naturae.

She is a very talented singer. People can't help how their singing voices sound and I think she has a beautiful voice and amazing range. I mean, like in "Home" she can hit those low E's like it's nobody's business

Once again, someone commenting before reading the thread.

There's no problem with some of her Season 1 music, because that's what she's good at. The problem is that most RWBY songs are rock and she can't sing rock worth anything. She needs rock lessons. Even in the newest season, she still sucks at singing rock. I specifically suggested Lzzy Hale and Amy Lee for tips because CL can sing like them if she just...gets...lessons.
Look for Metal Covers on yT. There's one that's a bit "too heavy" but the chorus is almost perfect. Jenny is like, 1% closer to a non-screechy pitch, and some guy is even worse... but the metal one... it's a bit "too far" the other way, but the first parts of the chorus on amazing. LittleV
Oh OP trust me, I'm in full agreement, for you're not the only who who has felt that way. Many do. Frankly I was blown away when I heard Volume 5's opening.

"What? Did she actually Improve?? Nope shes a supporting vocalist."

Clearly they knew they had to get someone who had more punch with their voice. Thus the new singer. Casey always sounded a bit flat to me and it bugged me heavily to the point of annoyance. Perhaps it could be due impart to how what tune the chords are set in for the instruments because her voice and the instruments always gave me the feeling of a weird 'fan' cover. I'd say once she gets some proper lessons in, she'll not sound so grating.

Exactly. And really the lessons don't need to include the genre style from Season 1. It's the rock stuff that she needs to work on. I'm not saying she's a bad singer at all, it's just that her rock vocals need work. The voice itself is an instrument, and rock instruments are meant to sound powerful and exciting, with a heavy feeling to them - which her vocals do not.

They didn't use a new singer for volume 5's opening, that was Casey >.>

I mean isn’t it Casey’s dad who makes the music? I’d find it hard to believe they’d toss his daughter out this far in.

Well I stand corrected for her inital voice sounds NOTHING like her. Where was this punchy voice in earlier openings?

While the V5 opening is definitely better than her other rock works, it's an anomaly - other V5 music doesn't compare.
So the problem I feel that that the music has in general, is that it is stretching a story out a little too hard. It's like a very lyrical letter. There is no flow to the lyrics. Casey is put into a tough position, because you can't do an out of the part job of singing something that doesn't really fit as a song. It really doesn't help that the instrumental is thrown in as an afterthought. So often does she sing out of rhythm of the song that it's unlistenable to me. Another thing that bugs me is something I'm going to call the "Bill Wurtz" effect, for lack of any other way to describe it. The polytonality with a slight distortion sounds comical and grating. This is an issue particularly because the song is attempting to be serious. It's a very repetitive pattern that can wear you down after hearing it enough. To call it a distraction is an understatement. Wurtz was never trying to be a serious figure, so in his case, when his videos are the embodyment of an acid trip, I feel that it is a bit much to have equal expectations. I think the people working on RWBY are creative, but would benefit immensely from a bit more training, instead of jumping right in. Nearly everything about the series is offputting because at every step of the way, something just doesn't fit, make sense, or look right. It can be heavily unimersive for those that cant help but take notice of every detail and be unnerved when some things just don't add up.
