Just raising awareness (Players named CODEX)

Some of you might have noticed the abnormal amount of people named "CODEX". Well there is a simple reason for it: They are all players who are using a pirated copy of the game. Since they can't boot up the game from a steam account they don't have a steam profile/name. That's why their name is CODEX, it's the name of the pirate or group.

While pirating can sometimes be a hot topic, when it comes to stealing from indie developers I think we can all agree that it is pretty despicable.

What we can do about it? Quite frankly I don't know. My goal was simply to make people know who they are dealing with. Maybe the devs can block people using that name or something? As for me I'll simply try to avoid playing with these people as much as I can.

well they did something with igggames, they cant 'AcquireCharacterUpgrade'.
they might as well add that name(codex) too to the list. it seems like they dont want to ban anyone.
(i dont think they will do much about pirates, they just say please dont be pirate)

I once saw a post that highlighted ways games get their own back on pirates. It'd be pretty cool if maybe pirates autimatically have no aura to use so they always get one shotted, like a normal human doing a huntress' job.

CODEX players cannot save their progress in-game, so they will never be able to access the Hunter Ranks or unlock some of the more difficult challenges. That by itself, I think is punishment enough.

Eh, I wouldn't call the challenges difficult. They very in the amount of grinding it takes to achieve them but the actual actuons themselves are easy. Just throwing that out there.

And for the record, despite what I just said, I'm okay with the 'challenges'. What I said was more of a statment than a complaint.

Even better if they could also be hurt by team members' aoe ultimate skill and other attacks that have a wide range.

I'd almost say no reviving them either (have them wait the 45 seconds) but people working on rank could make use of reviving people a lot.

I would want that feature without needing a pirated copy. More challenge is always welcome.

I'm not a pirate, I swear! I changed my Steam name temporarily to check if if using the name IGGGames altered some behavior in game (it did).

Thanks for letting the dev team know about this other group. We are aware of a few sites now that are offering cracked versions of the game and not only will our legal department be in contact with them, but we will continue to make changes to thwart the pirating groups we know of.

You know, there are game developers that do sometimes do clever things to punish pirates, like one Crysis game where that if you're playing a pirated copy of the game, then you'll be shooting out chickens instead of ammunition, which the chickens don't do any kind of damage. So I hope Rooster Teeth acknowledges the pirated copies and decides to add a clever way to punish pirates, knowing RT, it would probably be pretty clever...
