Keeping Chickens Alive
How? So, I tried this 3 times. I shot a chicken with my bow, it had a little health left. I did this very near my base and the animal house, ran right back there and stuck the chicken in with plenty of food and water in there. 2 minutes later, I go back to and check on it, and it's dead. What am I doing wrong.

I thought it was possible is you put a still alive chicken in and there is food and water, it can survive, but it always dies very quickly.

Am I feeding it the wrong thing? I didn't think that matters? Does the food and water have to be completely full if it has low health, or am I just not giving it the right food?

What you described should work. The type of food/water put into the animal house does not matter as long as the food and water bars shown in the animal house are above zero.

Maybe something weird happened like you put the chicken in right when he was dying and the animal house accepted him and then immediately killed the chicken... or maybe you had multiple chickens in your inventory and got confused as to which one was almost dead.

Did the dead chicken actually show up in your animal house? If so that would eliminate the possibility of your chicken not being accepted into the animal house. Ie, i think if you already have the maximum amount of animals in your animal house and try to add an additional animal the game might just plop the animal on the ground next to the animal house. But in that case if it died or ran away, it definitely would not show up as a dead carcass in the animal house.

On that note, are you sure you didn't have a dead chicken in your animal house from before? If you did, that preexisting dead carcass would probably consume 1 animal spot which would prevent you from adding another animal. In that case when you attempted to add another chicken, might have dropped on the ground and ran away as a wild chicken, then when you returned you saw the dead carcass that was always in there.

These all seem fairly unlikely though so it is possible you might have a bug at play. Personally I would move my animal house to somewhere else a few meters away and try again. It shouldn't make a difference of course, but if your animal house is bugged for some reason, changing it's location might reset it's variable and make it start operating correctly again.

Make sure you drop food and water on their spots. Most likely what happened is that you put food and water into the waste slots.

How and where are you putting it in the chicken house. If you are putting in the bottom areas, that is not where they go.

What I did today to get it to work, is to drop the chicken in that first spot, the one all by itself. It's level 2 already. I just put another one in the first row of the 2nd row, where I put all the other ones that died.

So, you can only put one chicken in at a time? What are those two rows of slots at the bottom for?

Ah, I see, you have to add additional animal slots as an upgrade. I just added one to put my 2nd chicken in before he died!

But I still do not know what the bottom slots are for.

The bottom slots are for eggs and Poop.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't putting un-purified water in poison the animals?
