Is there a specific time and place where wild cotton grows?

I would like to get wild cotton, not cultivated.
I have been in the game for 8 seasons and have only found 4 wild cotton.

Yes it can be difficult to see. Best to grow it than find it..
Cotton grows in end of summer and through Autumn when the leaves on the trees start grow brown.

Cotton plants can be found from september through November.
They are easily spotted in the mountainous regions. If you have the means to craft a few heat packs head over there during autumn.
As a side note: cotton in the game is mostly found in the form of seeds, either in locked crates[subsistence.wiki] or in medical bags[subsistence.wiki]

South - Southeast of the Center Pond in the valley and foothills. September mostly, Strawberry's in August. Cotton is a sparsely growing plant.
You may also find cotton seeds in the green bags with a better chance of finding them in locked crates. You will get three pieces of cotton from every cotton seed that you grow and only one piece of cotton from the plant you find growing in the wild.
