will this dev ever open their eyes and listen to the community?
im not elaborating on the listening to the community. ive had this game for long enough and ive watched and sat back had a few comments myself. this person has this "idealistic" vision for this game, im not going to lie, thats better of as a privately developed game for this developer to keep to themselves, as it is this game has appeal, but no substance. nothing, and im getting real sick of the excuse used "placeholders" for future stuff. no man the grind of so many items to make one thing is ridiculous, then you (talking to the developer) say "its a survival game" no its not, youve got people building ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lathes and scuba gear, thats not survival my god how how is that survival. no your reasons for your willful ignorance are nothing but paper trash, just like your game, its a facade with nothing but cobwebs inside of it. and besides can you at least give some damn backstory as to why we are trapped inside a fenced in land being hunted by people? you never should have made this thing public at least not until you had it more finished.

PS FIX THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BEEES bees dont go underwater moron. fix it. NAO. this is getting ridiculous. either quit your job and develop the game or give everyone their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ money back and do something else. put more some effort into this and have some damned integrity.

You talk as if you're a veteran. How many hours do you have on record?
Tuittu 2024 年 4 月 28 日 下午 10:51
I'm happy when the dev is not listening the community and he is doing his own thing. I wish the dev could use more time to develop the game though.

There are certain placeholder features in game. The thing is that the the players might enjoy these placeholder features. I'm talking things like the magic bags. These days it's a part of the game, it's called the loot run.

The grind is a part of the game. The game loop is there and you repeat it 100 hours or 1000 hours. The grind is the only thing that makes me come back to the game. I can always play some more, have a good time and enjoy the game. The grind is not going to end anytime soon. It's like a life in a game. And it's be best thing in Subsistence without making too complicated systems in game.

Subsistence is a survival game, but it's a grafting game also. There are survival elements in the game. You need food, a shelter and basic stuffs to survive. There are enemies and fishing. All the things a survival game needs.

There are survival games where you can craft a helicopter and a car out of sticks, stones, some duct tape and couple of metal bars. And those games are categorized as a survival game too.

On this account? A few hundred hours I think. A few hundred more on my sons account.

I bought the game a few weeks after it first hit Steam. I absolutely loved the game and supported the developer with my money and kind encouraging words here on the forums. I watched the updates come and go, and all was well until the elevator update a few years ago. That was the first update that totally ditched the direction the game was going in in favor of taking it down the doomed path it has been on ever since. That single update changed the entire flavor of the game...I gave some harsh critique but continued to play because surely the dev would get back to building the game that was advertised: A wilderness survival simulator. At that point the game had little content (not much has changed embarrassingly enough)....We didnt even have the christmas tree at that point...or honey...or ice fishing....Developer took almost 9 months to put out a "big update"....an elevator.

In the YEARS that have followed, we got the ability to catch fish in the winter, find honey, and a cave system that gives you stuff to craft a 4 wheeler.......oh and a hand glider-very essential wilderness survival tools that any experienced survivalist needs.

Fine ya know...if developer has the mental acuity of a teenager and this is what his idea of wilderness survival is...so be it. But this is not the direction the game was going when I bought it, nor has anything been added to the game that a single competent person has asked for.

The entire community complains about mat costs.......developer COMPLETELY ignores all of you and adds a 4 wheeler. We BEG for furniture or decorations.....developer gives you GUN SKINS YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR.....The only time the developer is active is in the few days after a patch in which he is petting his little playtesters and BFF's ego's, like this Virago.

The community has been shunned by this developer 100%. Unless you are Virago or one of his other very small group of finger buddies, your opinion means less that dog poop.

This has been an ongoing issue for years. Anyone who reads these forums knows it to be fact. It has been well established. Yet Cold Games alter ego Virago still sticks around stumping for a developer who refusing to concede any points about his game to the community and keeps his high material costs as a gatekeeper to inflate gametime in this game.

Think a moment about the full range of craftable items in this game. 30-40 hours content tops IN ANY LOGICAL SYSTEM. Not Coldgames.....no...if you want to experience the game you paid for, it will require hundreds if not thousands of hours of grind. That would be cool if the game and its systems werent so shallow. Everybody who puts the time in realizes this sooner or later. Thats why so many people own the game but so little actually spend time playing it. Pull you head out of Coldgames hole, stand up like a man, and concede the the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF THIS GAMES OWNERS.....

I will repeat it for you...THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF THE COMMUNITY HATE WHAT COLDGAMES HAS TURNED THIS GAME INTO AND HIS INSISTANCE ON IGNORING FEEDBACK. Its hard for men to see flaws in their lover, but do try.

Use more time to develop the game?? THE GAME HAS BEEN OUT FOR ALMOST A DECADE. IT USES ASSETS FROM THE ONLINE STORE.........You people need to stop rewarding the the lowest performing developers on steam and start rubbing their noses in their failures. Maybe then we would have less scummy developers that take a year to put out underwhelming patches.

Too long rant, too many caps. tldr;

Buying the game doesn't make you a member of the dev team. So you're right about the opinions.

Calm down.

You clearly missed my point. CG is developing the game, but clearly the game is not his main priority anymore. Or what ever reason he has. I wish he could use more time and finish the game some day.

"Subsistence is a sandbox, first person, solo or co-op, PvE open-world survival game"

That is the first sentence presented about the game on the Steam store page.

The first two out of the three tags listed are "open world survival craft" and "survival"

But what you are telling me is besides the "very" early gameplay, this game, which advertised on almost every level as a survival game, is not about survival.

Men and Women of the forums I give you the PRIME example of ColdGames fanboy intelligence.

Perhaps you can understand why so many of us are perturbed that the direction of the game has skewed so far of course than the game that was A) Advertised and B) started out as.

Its like paying a crew to build you a house. You get to see the blueprints, listen to the developers plans and promises (magical loot boxes are a placeholder bahahaha) and it at sounds good enough to buy into. The foundation is great so you continue to support and pay into....then one day you notice instead of a kitchen, they built a landfill. Next instead of building you a bedroom, they build you a tennis court and say sleep in the foundation. On top of it, the entire house needs to be supplemented with 5 billion tree whacks to supply enough wood to build the sauna in place of the living room. Basically, the crew decided to put in asinine features in your house while giving a big middle finger to the basic parts of the house. Not only that, but they snubbed their nose and looked down upon ANY request you might have, took almost a year to complete a single room, AND LIED TO YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY when they made promises (like loot boxes are placeholders haha) that 10 years later they not only failed to keep, but refuse to even mention in their one or two forum posts a year.

I know its hard for you to accept man, but ColdGames is just....the bottom of the pile man on every front. Everyone knows this but a tiny fraction of you fanboys. I wonder why that is?

@JohnOfTheDead:

The store page also says this:
"Goals of the project:
The aim is to integrate the kinds of base-resource micro-management typically found in RTS titles, into a boots-on-the-ground shooter. Each base has an underlying economy of power and raw materials that must be maintained and expanded in order to rise in dominance.

The focus is not of primitive survival (although there are many elements during the early-game), but instead a focus on the base, its security, technology and resources."

The tags you mention are user tags, a developer has nothing to do with those.

Are you saying elevators, hang gliders, and plane crashes push the goal of the RTS part, the shooter part, and/or the survival part?
Quantifiably Inert 2024 年 4 月 29 日 下午 4:30
I would ask about the ATV, but we all know an ATV is ESSENTIAL for a wilderness survival game, or an RTS game, and even a shooter game. ESSENTIAL.

Subsistence is a sandbox, first person, solo or co-op, PvE open-world survival game. Struggle through changing seasons to build a base, develop technology and gear-up in the hostile environment. Defend yourself from wildlife, the elements and AI hunters (who also build bases in the world). There is no RTS in this game.
