Fiber Nerf
Seriously, how are you guys not losing your minds over this nerf. I get that he increased yield, but he totally quadrupled the fiber necessary. Those little flammable fiber brick went from 10 to 60 fiber???

It might be meant as encouragement to harvest more wood or to mine coal in the caves as alternative fuel sources.

Maybe the recipe had a proper adjustment since they were so easy to obtain that i rarely used any wood in the burner.

I never crafted the fiber brick since I use fiber for crafting other things, I only use logs for my fires and burners since I always carry some around.

Never really used the fuel brick but with this new nerf they are even more useless and I definitely don't plan on using them now

well the dev increased the yield of fiber by 700% so he needed to increase the fiber requirements by 700%. he finally reworked the fiber but he realized "uh oh doing this is going to make it less tedious for the player"

cordage got increased from 2 fiber to 14 and fire bricks from 10 to 65

Yeah sadly this dev thinks that hardcore means tedious grind. Wonder how bad his sales are doing? Honestly if you are unhappy with the change be heard, leave a review for the game. Let him hear loud and clear that we are tired of the long tedious grind. Starting as a new player is even worse.

I agree. It was a shoddy update.

Well, instead of "burn money" we can now say "burn fiber"!
SPQR Jan 5, 2024 @ 2:23am
Agreed.
The rationale is that there is now 7 times more fiber in the world, so it should even out.
It doesn't, and it's not even close.

While there may be 7 times more fiber in the word on paper, realistically you only pick 4-5 times more than before. In other terms, it doesn't even out. In other terms, it's been nerfed.

Currently on a regular loot day I can get 150-200 fiber on average, sometimes less, rarely more. That's 21-28 if you convert to the old fiber, which is nothing special (I could get 35+ most days without even trying before A62).

On top of that, it now takes 5 times as much time to harvest, AND you have to stop sprinting if you want to clean up a bush. Over days, this absolutely translates to a nerf to every other resource, especially in early game.

People who don't see a problem are either in late game, not doing any building at all, specifically targeting fiber during their loot runs (at the expense of everything else), or straight up lying.

Now, imo the real problem is not that the balance has been messed with. The real problem is that it appears to be unintentional. The point of the update, as per the release notes, was to make fiber visibly more beefy and more satisfying to harvest. In other terms, it was supposed to be a seamless, cosmetic change.

True in mid-late game.
Did you start a new profile on / shortly before A62?

It is even worse SPQR

The fiber bricks were introduced long time ago when most players got tired of the excessive wood consumption and Virago knows that perfectly because he was here back then.

That is the game "balance"

I usually stopped using wood in the burner by day 5.
I did start a new profile with this update. I'm not making fuel bricks as much now simply because I dont want to stop to pick all the fiber I see every day so I will use wood or coal sometimes.
I did decide to do a "pick every fiber I see" day: ended up with enough from that one day for 6 fuel bricks and 3 cordage so there's plenty on the map. It's just a question if a person wants to pick it all.

The thing is I'm not even talking about bricks, regular cordage is now a mid-high tier item.

Any medium amount of base building (not talking dyson sphere levels here) will wreck your fiber stash insanely fast and require multiple "pick every fiber I see" days. Might as well rename the game to "Press E simulator".
I've built multiple bases across multiple profiles across multiple years, I have a pretty good sense of resource scarcity. Usually planks are the bottleneck, not cordage. Not true anymore.

Many people don't see the problem because numbers are so high they seem fine.
As soon as you divide by 7 you realize that you have much less on average than you used to prior to the update.

SPQR recently you may have seen some of the fans defending how useful was a wood gather booster that results in less wood gathered if you waste time and effort crafting and using it instead of just gathering wood.

They do not care about numbers, they do not care even about their opinions, they just defend the current developer thing or what they think he will do.
