Tired of getting killed by wolves
Hello-
I got to the point where I had a basic base, you know, with some wooden floors, walls and roof; a simple garden, etc. However, when I ventured out of my base and away from the lake, I would still sometimes get attacked and killed by a wolf.

At some point, this stress has to stop; I can't take it any more! I'm playing at the easy level, no hunters; maybe the wolves could be toned-down a bit?

wolves and bears give you a warning before they attack you, so if you are not deaf then you are playing this game wrong.

Once you understand the behavior and the sounds of the predators, they become just another niusance in the journey across the map. But ofcourse you have to listen, you have to use your skills to navigate them. But if start out in easy this should easily be learned in an hour or two.

I've been running for 9 days now, no base, with just an axe, pick and a bow and nothing more than my boxers.... and have not been killed, on hardcore difficulty. You need to learn how to maneuver around the predators safely, I suggest you watch some YT vids.

I haven't died in a hardcore game in hundreds of hours...actually not since mid 2017.

Maybe I just need to turn up the volume. I'll give it another try...

I use surround headset, it works wonders! Just run opposite of sound!

I usually just lure them with an arrow shot, take 1 step backwards into my base, they run away, rinse and repeat until dead. When i'm away from my base I keep a non-upgraded shotgun (I can't get weapon parts to upgrade it, many game years in and only 2 locked crates) and a couple of shells for those occasions when a wolf gets confused and thinks hes my dog and wants to nuzzle.

I'm new to the game, though I've had it since release I only just started playing. Just today I realised that I could kill the wolves with my pistol. Up to now I hadn't bothered making pistol rounds and those I had I used to get 1 or 2 headshots at a bear or moose before letting rip with the shotgun or rifle.
Pistol rounds are found often in bags/boxes etc and are the easiest, cheapest to make once you have the workbench. Now I have wolf sandwich for breakfast and laugh when I hear one growling!
I also kill bears with the bow just by using a bit of tactics - stand at the top of a high rock/cliff when a bear is below the sheer side and start shooting arrows. Unlike other animals, he doesn't (always) come around - he just gets mad at the bottom, while you keep putting arrows into him until he dies. Bear sandwich for supper!

Not so long back - couple of weeks - I was just like you. Stick with it, you'll get there sooner than you think!

Thanks, I'll try these tactics, as well as the higher volume.

honestly get your first shotgun crafted as soon as you can .... one shots wolves if you get a head shot. crouch and aim for the head it never fails, i can promise you will have a decent stock of shotgun shells (via crates and hand crafting shells) by the time you get situated enough to make one. you can craft it in your inventory btw.

the game needs just make animals more realistic. the one bullet we get to start should be enough to make every animal within half a mile unass the area swiftly. not take a round to the face then keep chasing me. one shot in air should do it.

If it´s realism you want are you also prepared to let go of all the other unrealistic features that make up this game...... Lets start out with everyones favorite, our backpack, that can hold an entire freight train of goods.

Let´s just asume for a moment that a log weighes abouth 2-3kg and we are able to carry 4300logs..... "Ore" another favorite ;).... metallic rocks, they stack in 200 each. I would asume that a single ore weighs arround 1 kg, considering the amount we need for getting bars.... that is! That would add up to a mere 8600kg in total. Boards are even worse still, as we need 3 logs pr board that would add up to, in excess well over 38.000kg.

Are you sure REALISM is the way to go??????

Oh yeah let´s not forget the workbench or the laser furnace. They are many times bigger than the backpack, yet we are able to carry arround 43 if we fill our inventory.....

Realism..... Go to hell!

I don’t think anyone expects absolute realism in this game but I would agree there are certain elements that could be more realistic and would imo improve the game.
Things like being able to carry large amounts of materials and being able to craft on the fly are common place in these types of games and are necessary for gameplay purposes.
The environment/animals/season those elements I definitely think could be more realistic and better the game.
