Thoughts about eagles and fishing... those a**holes.

In my solo hardcore game about to die of starvation just as i catch a large fish. Holy hell yes!!!!!! As I am reeling it in, stupid eagle comes in and steals it. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So managed to catch a little fish right after but made me think, is there a way we can avoid this? Can we stop reeling in and just let it sit there a minute or does the eagle not give up and keep circling? Seriously almost died because of this winged jerkface today.

i was reeling one in and that sucker was diving , i was on platforms in the middle of the lake when i got close it backed off a bit . but hardcore ,. forget it! eat tree worms .

I have stopped cranking/reeling and had that work a couple of times but it is hit and miss and hard to time properly. You have to stop right when the eagle is locked into a spot where the fish is going to be and then it kinda does this little shudder in the air and will eventually fly off without your fish when the fish isn't there. Like I said though not a 100% sure thing. I have also had some luck by fishing under a foundation it seems to sometimes actually hide you from the eagle and make it not even notice when you have a fish hooked.

That particular location is the number one eagle hunting ground on the map I have found so far. No other location has a much issues with eagles as that particular location in my experience. That little cove and the rock island are impossible to fish and bow hunt in at times.
