Hunter Questions
OK. I just recently turned hunters on for the first time.

Shouldn't you be able to see them on the map.

Early this morning, I was sitting in my base, just got done crafting stuff.

So I'm hearing these noises, sounds like someone in the pond sploshing around. So right away I thought hunters are in my pond. Looked out the window. No one out there. Went outside, no one out there.

So then I start hearing more noises, sound like hammering. So I'm looking on the map, if they're close enough I can hear them, I'm thinking I can see them on the map. Nothing.

So I went out and headed north for my first exploration of the day, and I hear gunshots. Looked around, there's 4 of them on the road, shooting at me. I managed to kill all of them after taking some damage, they totally surprised me.

So, shouldn't these guys show up on the map? Or is that only their base that will show up? BTW. I have it set to revenge attacks only, but these guys started shooting at me on site. Maybe I don't understand how it works...

Individual hunters won't show up on the map, but their base structures will.

Revenge Attacks Only means they will only launch an "attack on your base" if you attack them. They will always attack you if you are within their agro range, even if hunter attacks are off.

Another one showed up all by himself and decided to fish in my pond.

Ah, I get it. Thanks!

Additionally to seeing the hunter bases on map, you will also see the rogue campfires on the map at night, but rogues will relocate every few days.

Hunters will try to fish at your pond daily. With "Revenge Attacks Only" option, if you kill him his whole clan will launch an attack on your base within a day.

i highly suggest you select "no attacks" until you get used to them.

the rouges move at night, so just before sunrise check your map and you'll be able to see all the campfires on the map. the ones that never move are the hunters, the ones that move every night are rouges.

I too am on Central pond, 2 hunter bases are really close and rogue's love that place too, so if you plan to live there, you better accept the fact there will be gunfights almost daily when you're coming home from your loot run.

I'm built on CP too My bases are further away. The closest 1 was Alpha & I cracked them So they would turn into a Medium size base. I didnt like where they was at so I evicted them. Now they Built right On the beach at Northern Lake LOL! Charlie I can see now from my Base Windows lol. When I first had Hunters on I had no attacks also until I got use to them. It worked now I just kill em all LOL

OK. I have attacks turned off. Yet, I'm crafting this morning and next thing I know, my base is on fire. A guy is out there shooting flaming arrows at me. Totally unprovoked.

Is that supposed to happen?
Snapps Evolved May 12, 2021 @ 10:04am
If they see you through the window yes

Honestly bro, if you are playing with hunters for the first time and not used to dealing with them, that's gonna be a really bad spot

I can hear them hammering again this morning. But I don't see any fires on the map.

I guess they call them rogues because they do what they want and there's no way to control them. Now that I know that, I'll be looking for them...

Ah, I see one right outside my window and there's one with a flashlight! LOL.

I think I need to get rid of all these windows and build a 2nd floor now...

So I snuck up on them to get a closer look. There are three of them and they're all wearing armor and helmets. Geez. So this bunch are way tougher than the first ones I met who had no shirts, boots, or helmets.

OK, there guys are really tricky. I killed 2 of them. Then could not find the other one. I raided their campfire found some fish. Put the fire out. No sign of the 3rd one. So I'm back in my base and look out the window and the fire is lit again! So I go out there and check the fire, took a salmon. And then the 3rd one reappears and starts shooting at me. I can't see him so I ran. LOL.

i agree 100% having to deal with hunters can be a whole new ball game once they get going and moving around the map becomes harder and harder, also the repair costs on your base can be a lot. try " no attacks " for a while.

no attacks means they won't even revenge attack your base... however they will still jack you up if you wander into their alert zone. they will chase after you and start shooting so stay alert. if shots start coming your way and you aren't ready to engage just run like hell back to your base. you can outrun them most of the time as long as you weren't in their lap when they started shooting you.

some tips for taking down bases/camps... everyone does things differently but here's how i deal with them and it may work for you as well.

small bases:

you'll need two brand new pickaxes to take down the door once the AI are dealt with. to deal with them... first take cover from the sniper in the base, and head shot one of the two hunters outside. try to find one without a helmet if you can so you can take him down. quickly switch to your shotgun then run up on guy #2 and blast him in the face for the kill. once the two roamers are down, run up to the base and you can hide out under the awning where you can't be hit. from there you can fade back a bit and take down the sniper with a few headshots through the railing. it will take 2 full pickaxes and a bit of time to get the door down... on the very last hit of the 2nd pickaxe... stand to the side out of the doorway. as soon as the door is down, there could be a 4th AI spawning inside the base... a shotgun blast to the face makes short work of him as well.

reward: 1 chest, and a woodstove (some will have a workbench and a refinery as well) and up to 4 AI loot bags and a campfire

fortress:

similar strat, but for this you'll need a shaped charge and 6 grenades. take out the two free roamers while behind cover from the snipers. run up on the fortress and place a shaped charge on the door then run around the corner while trying to stay covered. after that go back in the fortress and clear it out with something powerful like the revolver or a high level weapon (or premium arrow). there will be quite a few AI in there, usually 4 or 5 more. once they are down head to the top of the base and work your way down (the grenades will take out floors and stairs so you won't be able to go up if you start from the bottom). two grenades on each door followed by a little bit of pickaxe to take them down. there shouldn't be any AI hiding behind any of the doors but be ready just in case.

reward: 4 chests, 2 workbenches, 2 refineries, 2 woodstoves, at least 6 AI bags and a stove and fridge to raid as well. it's quite a haul.

rouges:

these guys can suck because you'll have 4 guns shooting at you at once. depending on your armor and health levels (and skill) there's a few ways to deal with them but it doesn't hurt to start the process with a well placed headshot to the dome of a non-helmeted rouge. this will mean only 3 guns shooting you instead of 4. you can either run like hell back to your base or an outpost... or... what i do is just sprint right up to them one at a time and flip the off switch on them with a shotgun to the face.

reward: a campfire and 4 AI bags with good stuff (gears, weapon parts, planks... sometimes you can even get lockpicks but i think i've only ever found 2 (just got 2nd a few days ago))

Thanks, great tips. For now, I just have to get rid of the one who was just shooting at me since they are right outside my window. I suppose there's only one left since I killed the other 2.

I got rid of him. He had a rifle and armor on, along with a helmet. But I killed him, after being shot 3 times, luckily not dead.

Now I see another campfire, but it's a lot farther away in the same direction.
