Server settings?
Hi! Im hosting a server. and have been doing it for a while for this game. But I wonder if there is a possibility to change server settings, rate, tickrate and so on. Or its just locked. Then I wonder why there is so much ping in this game? even higher after the latest update. On my own server, I'm kind of 50 if that's what is shown in the game. Then I have the server within the same network. have some from russia who connect, but think it's a shame that they have over 100 sometimes, should actually have 10-15 ms max, with my network.

First off the server settings are all within your server hosts web control panel. Secondly Anyone outside of your country or really far away from your server location (IP Based) will have a terrible connection (Lag, Desync etc) when connecting to a Server with an IP address from another country. If your self hosting within subsistence, it's based off your latency from your internet provider. I use a tool called TCAdmin for all my game servers that way they are not all setup on my PC taking up vital hard drive or SSD space.

If you have any questions you can add me on steam or add me on discord i'm always online.

Hello! Thanks for your reply. No, I'm not hosting servers from any game host. (Have done it once in my life, and never again), as I think most server companies use overloaded machines. However, not always. I always host my own servers. and has been doing this for about 20 years time. everything from web servers to games. However, not so much anymore, as before. No, my internet provider has good ping out in the world, especially in the EU But ping is also quite decent to the US from Sweden. However, maybe 130ms, so not optimal for games over there. But still good. The question was if you can change settings to the server.
But maybe Coldgames can answer them. I tried to change a bit in rates, as well as tick rate a while ago. But it did not work. Why I ask e because I want to investigate and change this myself, Have noticed that it is High ping to this game, Especially when you have between 20-50 depending on how many connect, when you have the server in the garage.

Hello There,

It seems the ping keeps increasing each day, I host my own server and a traceroute shows 20/25 ping. Also the way back from server to my machine shows same 20-25 ping. However ingame it's 130+. I believe it's a bug or something it seeems to increase on each game day.

Hi! You need to restart the server often, then you will notice a difference. I do it automatically on my. Yes, coldgames is probably working on getting things in order later. As I said dedicated server is quite new than to this game. Will investigate myself one day in some settings if I can make some changes. Just have not had time for this.

you need to look at your systems resources as well, IE how much Ram CPU and how fast is your internet ?.

you can do all of this by logging onto the machine your using to host each game server.

and you say that server hosts have I quote "Overloaded" machines ?. what and why ?. your wrong there. if they had that problem we wouldn't have online gaming and we would all be stuck playing single player games still. as for your ping it's not going to show you a real ping from your machine to your gaming PC. and internet connections are not always consistent either they can flop around a lot. Say your paying for 120mbps download and 80 upload speed. your still going to have flops in your speeds both for your upload and download. Also keep in mind that everyone or most families are working from home or are stuck at home because either their schools are closed or their country is in a lock down, Stay at home order or even martial law is in place so that is causing a lot of problems with internet providers around the world right now because there's so many customers/Clients connecting to their services it's bottle necking the networks.

I have given you all i can for now. any further questions just reply to me and i'll do my best to help you out again.

Tnx gamerMike. I found that my server is mutch better preformance than officiall EUs So im glad its work better. My provider has no problem with either bandwidth or ping. One of the world's best backbone. At the moment I use 500/500 Mbit / s
have driven at 1000/1000 before. but do not need that bandwidth anymore. not really 500 either.
The problem is neither the server nor the ping or bandwidth. It is the engine itself that is tricky. Need to work more on this. But it will surely come later. This game is not the first to have problems built with the unreal engine. No, I'm not saying that all servers are overloaded as you rent. But the ones I rented before have not been so super good. Then it is good that it exists for people who neither can, nor understand how to manage and host servers themselves. Have hosted in server halls myself, before with own machines.

I don't think you understand. Your current system your hosting the server from is most likely causing the issues. it can only stretch so far as in terms of how much power it can push out. say your running an i5 quad core with 8 or 16GB of ram. each player will use up some of that Ram and CPU core usage. once your CPU and ram are maxed out your server will start to chug really hard then that can impact your internet as well due to the hardware being maxed out.

Haha you dont think i understand how to host a server? Like i said early i have hosted server long long long time. Do you not think i have control and se what my servers use and so on. Like i said engine is the problem here. So we not talk about this anymore now. We give coldgames som times to fix and trix. i tryed other server for se how they preform yestoday. And i found out that my server works hell better. So its ok for me so long.

Branti is right. Server needs work yet. I also run a server at a dedicated machine and after 8 players everyone's ping goes over 100. And I run game servers since 2006 so I know a few things :)

iv'e been working on servers and in the industry for over 10 years. i think i would know the difference between self hosted hardware on a consumer connection compared to a high speed fiber line business connection. big difference. i also tried to help him but he refused to give me any of the details when it came to his hardware he was running. so oh well i tried but he just was refusing to give vital information when i could of continued to help.

Not my issue. I tried my best.

No, I'm listening. But if I tell you that I myself have been working with servers for at least 20 years. compiled kernels for linux to get perfect game servers etc. I have also had servers on company abb. Just because you have a server on a corporate connection does not mean it would be better than a private connection. I have hosted servers that have been much worse than private connections. Have also had monitoring on servers when we had in the hall. Here in Sweden, we have no junk internet liner that runs on fiber. Maybe at home where you live you have it. Now the problem is at stake. So the problem is neither on my line nor the server machine. I have hosted servers with several 100 slots on this line without the slightest lag.

Thanks for your tips and tricks. But I do not need help with this. I just asked a question and hoped that coldgames would answer this, as I noticed that work needs to be done on the dedicated server part.

So I do not need discussions about either my internet line or the machine it was hosted on.

It might be a netcode issue but also something on your end. Are you able to receive low latency on public servers close to your area ?
Branti Jan 27, 2021 @ 9:13am
Hi. No, I have good ping to servers that are within the EU. including my own which I usually see as about 5-20 in the list. But what I mean is when you enter the game Then you see the ping in profile. It shows high, and the more players they come in, they get taller and taller. Or is it not ping that appears there? Maybe I'm mistaken. Or that it does not show right?

Don't try to fix, you can not. Only CG can fix it.
