Better use the shotgun.
dominuskevin May 11, 2018 @ 8:59pm
A level one wolf takes 3 arrows, or 5 pistool rounds. Two rifle rounds I believe. @Spac3Monk3y has it right. One round from shotgun point blank. You may have stumbled across the randon higher level critter. The pistol is supposed to be a place holder for a weak weapon in the future.

ok ill make one of them soon as i can next question whats the trick for aiming the bow i dont use it cuz i suck with them in all games but my son is normaly pretty good with them and he was having a hard time so thought id ask for him is there some point you can use for aiming it does it have a bad drop or no drop
Ribalder May 11, 2018 @ 9:23pm
if you shoot wolves with the bow from a foundation it will run away, so no attack. Bears WILL attack. good for practice. or chickens, bunnys. get about as close just before the animals health bar is clearly seen, aim just at the top of their back. it doesnt have a bad drop till youre shooting really long distance, which it will.
I found it very intuitive and quick to learn although I still miss when rushing somtimes.

also people use it for first shot to pull an animal for final kill close w shotty. crouch wait, and hit em right in the face point blank.

a regular arrow takes off more hitpoints then the pistol.

then theres the shoot-run like hell-turn an shoot again method. takes stamina. you can combine it with pistol or shotgun for finish shot, anyways u want .

Tip: map the shotty to a side mouse button for switching to it fast when hitting animals with bow or something first, cos they get to u fast then, and u dont want to be rolling mouse wheel to change weps, its too slow, and easy to goof it up.
or the numbers at top of keyboard are already mapped to weapon menu, but I put the shotty on side mouse button for fast weapon switch like you might be chopping wood and get jumped, or in water, getting out of water..etc, best to keep yur best wep here on a quick-to-ready position.

Best way to kill wolf's aand bears is to get your self on a rock which they cant jump up to get you and thay will be so re-tard-ed and what looks like from above as they are head banging the rock and you then just use your bow and arrow and pistol annd just take your time aim and shooting the animal untill dead.

If you miss with any arrows used on your prey and its dead you are able to collect said arrow's.

Hope this helps you... just select the right rock and parctice... :_)

Way back in the beginning it would take 5 rounds from 9mm, 2-3 rounds from rifle depending on level and single round from shotgun if you had the nerve to wait and shoot.

Once the bow got added I would single shot with the bow at good range then swap to pistol and once they straightened out finish them with 3 rounds. 9mm is cheapest, 3 rounds way cheaper than a single shotgun shell and far more plentiful in bags/crates.

10 days in 2 fake bases and I was waiting for the bad guys that never come. So I went wondering and stumbled upon a hunter camp. He's way too fast I can't hit him. I sneak up and hit him with a bow but he always kills me. Need to get a rifle I guess
Ribalder May 12, 2018 @ 10:26pm
did u change this post?
yeah u were asking about the bow, drop-off an such.

Ok, well, u only get one shot with the arrow and the animal will charge, even a lvl 1 wolf at 85 hitpoints can get to u an kill u fast, specially if u dont have any upgraded clothes, combat vest.

in this case, after 1 arrow, crouch and ready the shotgun quickly ala the method I described above. mapped to side mouse button. the pistol would do it, but every shot must hit, and with shotty its 1 boom its done. for that matter, u can just use the shotgun, no arrows.
even a non-upgraded shotgun has 120 hitpoints, more than enough for a level 1 wolf, not enough for a 140 bear.
but anyways, u cant use just the bow, they will attack, and too quickly reach you.

if you insist on using only the bow, ...
you could use the shoot once, and run-like-hell method till it gives up, stop and another arrow. three will do a level 1 wolf.
you can make premuim arrows later that are more powerful after raising chickens, and making the workbench.

the pistol will kill a level 1 wolf in 5 shots, crouch, and dont miss one, hell get ya an that means poinsoning probably, if not death also, and on respawn yur still poisoned, plus u lost yur ♥♥♥♥♥. yeah, its like that. fun fun.

avoid animals unless u plan the kill for meat. get setup. cabin, clothes. search crates. when u setup yur BCU u get 1 free lockpick for those special locked crates, hopefully it has sinew for boots, otherwise yur hunting cougar for it.
see the last Tab in crafting menu is clothes, upgrade those, and go fishing make antidote, you will need that when u get poisoned.

No. He was saying his son hit a wolf twice with arrows and hi hit twice with the 9mil and they still got killed. Thinking about it, they're probably playing co-op and that makes them harder to kill doesn't it?

or pistol. the shots it takes depends on yur weps upgrades and their jacket or vest (armor) level.
theres headshots for deer and hunters now. but the method for hunters is get to a rock, up on it, crouch an peek down to shoot them. dont get into those tree to tree battles with them, theyre too fast too good a shots.
the hunters are the same hunters for all modes, easy, normal, hardcore. all those modes do is limit how many u get. theyre all way too OP. they need a skill level u can set. like form 1-10, with 10 being what they are now for all modes.
and yes, u need a rifle.

the reason they havent attacked u yet I guess u had not engaged them. funny they didnt random attack your main base yet. they have been probably attacking the other BCU's, its random. thank yur lucky stars, cos when they get to yur main base, you better be ready for major damage.
M-A-J-O-R. grenades and grenade arrows. armor yur walls, or build walls way far out so they cant reach yur cabin.

have a laugh on me-

The arrow drops a bit in flight just like in real life. FOr rabbits I aim at the tippy tops of their ears. For chickens about a rabbits ear length above. For wolves I try to hit them broadsides and aim just above thier backs.

My variant of shoot and run for WOLVES ONLY involves finding one close to my base. Shoot and run for the base. As soon as I get on the foundation it runs off. Lather rinse repeat until dead.

Cougars I built a hunters blind. Shoot it with a long range shot and run for my blind and kill it from the second floor.

As for mapping keys I run a logitech G600 mouse. It is the cheap version of the razor naga. 12 thumb buttons. So all 8 toolbelt slots were already mapped to the thumb buttons for me. It does indeed make a huge difference for a quick weapon change. Yeah I came from the MMORPG world where the 12 buttons were a very good thing.

where u aim depends on how far away u are, doesnt it?

note I said at clear hitpoint box distance, I said aim at top of back. and thats as close as u can get before theyre scared off, or attack. the further away-higher, there is no closer or they will run away (chickens, bunnys), or attack for wolves or bears, or cougars. which u better stay away from if u pop them with an arrow theyll be on u in a second.

you cant give them an aimpoint w/out referencing the distance

For a wolf I find since I hit them broadside I dont need to aim much higher than just over their backs. THe height of the meat of thier bodys gives me the wiggle room I need for arrow drop. Bunnys and Chickens my method is remarkably consistant for me. The ONLY time I find myself aiming a bit higher is it I am shooting uphill.

So sorry my methods do not meet your standards but they work remarkably well for me and are easy enough to teach someone else and for them to remember. They can refine the technique on thier own.
Ribalder May 12, 2018 @ 11:45pm
remarkable
btw, wheres the chickens ears, Im trying yur method, but u still havent referenced any distance, its aim high and guess?.

theres no tippy-top (is that a word?) of a bunnys ears measurement, I tried picturing bunnys ears on a chicken, laughed and missed. Know why? I had no frame of reference for distance, and I dont know how high a bunnys ears is.

if u aim that high over a chicken at the distance reference point I gave, the clearly seen green hitpoints box, its way high.

top of the back is good at that distance, for ALL animals.,further away from that Frame of Reference for distance- higher, and that how high theyll have to figure out for themselves.

put it like this, cos I love u darkness, and yur tippy-top of bunnys ears is so cute:
heres a starting point frame of reference based on a set distance that works for all animals-when the green hitpoint box of the critter is fully visible, aim top of their back.
if your further away than that-a little higher, and practice.
