You need to get cotton seeds from crates, then you need to plant them, you will get 3 cotton per 1 seed.

The seeds are very scarce. 20 hours playing, hundreds of crates opened and only 2 cotton seeds.

Not sure if the dev realises it but plants do create seeds too, harvesting should return at least one seed as well as the 3 cotton. Also, it's not normal to destroy a plant by taking the cotton from it, other wise cotton farmers would go bankrupt in no time.

CG really needs to add the 'Extract Seeds' options to everything that can be grown.

The Way Wurm Unlimited does it, you can extract the seeds from each piece of cotton but it destros the cotton in the process. However, 3 cotton = 3 seeds so you have two more plants to harvest next time, giving 9 cotton in total.

The same goes for tomatoes and medicinal plants so long as the harvest is more than one each time from each plant. Even if you can harvest only 2 from each, 1 gets used and the other to turn into seed to replace the destroyed plant. Tended plants would return a higher yield than wild, the same way tame animals produce better meat.

Alternatively, harvesting produces the normal amount plus one seed to replace the plant.

Another option to increase realism is to allow the plant to "go to seed" to produce no crop but an increased amount of seed. Such practice is used with things like onions in real life by farmers who leave a percentage of their crop to go to seed so they can plant new crops of onions next year.

This is the best option, allowing plant to go to seed will yeild 3 seeds instead of 3 cotton - the key point being the OPTION when the plant is fully grown to "stress" the plant so it goes to seed almost instantly, otherwise people will be sitting watching a plant grow just to make sure it doesnt go to seed by accident - and that doesnt make for great gameplay.

I found some of it just wandering around, in July. Also found seeds in crates, I have a lot of seeds now and am growing some.

Ok for starters this is a game and not real life. Yes there are going to be some days you will find lots of seeds in crates and other days you won't find any. One time I found around 14 seeds in one day then went a few days without finding any at all. You just need to keep going out and looting crates. I also got about 9 seeds from one locked crate(not saying that you will get any every time that is) so make sure you got a lockpick with you at all times. You can't expect everything to come to you easy all the time. The game would get very boring that way. I like the way CG has the cotton seed gathering right now. Means you gotta work you butt off to get yourself ready for winter. Also there are cotton plants that grow wild outside during the autumn months but they only give one cotton or seed.

CG, I ask you one favour, please don't change the way you have the cotton seeds gathering, ty.

Going after locked crates is one of the ways of getting decent amount of seeds. Make a lockpick in the BCU and consult the world map in the Guides section to learn the locked crates spawn locations. Cheers

Cotton can appear in medical bags found by forriging, also in locked crates. Also growing in the wild aound October. change your month to October and then look around the East Lake fields. I usualy find them there either in Wild or in Medical bag. Plant them in garden beds even 1 will produce 2 craft to 2 seeds and keep expanding. If you dont need fast growing no need to water and fertilize .They still grow just slower.

I meant the Guides section of the Subsistence page on Steam. Sorry for not being clear enough :winter2019joyfultearssnowman:
