Yup, the above two are right - you only get one shell, so shotgun ammo is comparitively very expensive. But it's a great OH ♥♥♥♥ button.

Fortunately you can find quite a bit of it and you shouldn't have to make much, if any, really. I have never made an SG shell ever and I have a crate full of them just from finding them in ammo crates.

I agree with Duck, you do find a lot of shotgun ammo if you look carefully.
Making it is not a problem mid-late game, i have 4 drills and more ammo
than i can use. I would give you some if i could.

i was worried that i would get over run by animals and hunters without a shotgun. im just gonna turn off hunters for a while so i can get bullets

Just remember that if you turn off the hunters, you will only get ammo from the random crates and loskboxes. No hunters means no one to raid extra ammo from.

Even during the midgame, ammo is pretty sparse, and the decision to kill the crap out of a bear or wolf rather than just avoiding it should be carefully made - there are just too many of them, and even with a fridge you couldn't possibly eat all the steaks and livers you'd get from them if you were killing every one that got close to you. Never mind that you'd literally never get anything done, becaue you'd be killing and butchering animals every five steps. So even once you have bullets, discretion really IS the better part of valor. :)

i just use arrows these days for wolves and bears, 1 normal then 1 premium takes out a lvl 1 wolf, 1 normal and 2 premiums takes out most bears I come across or just 2 normals and a premium if its a black bear and not a grizzly

Shotgun ammo even for me with hunters on retal only is sparse to find in most ammo boxes but now I am using the bow more for wolves and bears I am finding it easier to get a little stockpile of them happening

I find the shotgun hard to use early and mod game on hi ters because you have to get close for damage. I tend to pick my spots and avoid attacks. Bow against animals and from high ground where possible. Everyone plays differently.

Yea, im trying to make a workbench so i can make gunpowder and shells so i dont have to rely on crates as much
