Double Barrel Shotgun Numbers Part Deux
So as many of you know I have been on a bit of a rant lately about the seeming impotence of the new DB Shotgun. My ire came from very poor performance vs wildlife, so today I thought I would try it in a fire fight with hunters.

I lured four hunters over to my base and using the DBSG and slug ammo I mowed them all down in four shots. Like a knife through butter it was.

Here are a few of the specifics:

All shots were midrange, maybe 20-30 feet away. Non were point blank. All hunters had helmets and full riot gear on. One shot kills, four times in a row.

So now the only discussion needed is whether it is worth it in terms of the resource trade.

Here are some numbers on that:

Double Barrel Shotgun Costs Recurve Bow Costs

Plank 5 5
Ingot 5 3
Gun Parts 20 15
Power 2000 1700
Mass 200 150

So the DBSG is about a third-ish more expensive than the bow. Upgrading costs the same for both.

Now on to ammo:

Slug Ammo Premium Arrows

Gun Casings 6 Scrap Metal 1
Gun Powder 16 Iron Fragments 2
Iron Fragments 3 Premium Feathers 1

The slugs use 50% more Iron fragments every shot vs PArrows. The difficulty is in how we see the comparison of the casings/powder to premium feathers. If you don't raise chickens then premium arrows are hard to come by and so slugs becomes your only option unless you raid fortresses where you can acquire a few premium arrows from time to time. I'll leave that up to you.

Considering both take out a hunter in one shot, assuming a lvl 2 recurve bow, then its pretty close in terms of cost to own and use.

Whats left is for the player to decide if these fit their play style and resources available.

As a final note I would like to say that the DBSG seems to do one thing very well and that is the cutting of hunters in half in a midrange fight. I find it shortens encounters with hunter greatly. If your playstyle is one where you like to engage groups of hunters regularly and can afford the cost of the ammo, the DBSG is something you might want to consider.

For killing wildlife however there are many other far more cost effective choices.

I think its also worth noting that some balancing of ammo costs and hunter loot would go a long way to making the game more enjoyable in general.

I've been using the slugs quite a bit in hunter fights and it is pretty useful. I dont have to hunt for a headshot like i do with the rifle and the hunters are far less likely to dodge it at the last second like they do arrows. In my experiences, i agree it does indeed shorten the fights with hunters. By shortening the fights, it lessens the amount of bandages/first aid kits I use so that is a plus also. I also dont see a reason to use slugs for killing wildlife as there are other options. One thing to note though, using regular shotshells in it still one shots most wildlife at point blank range like the regular shotgun does.
I think the biggest downside that people will have with the double barrel is reloading more often. But if you know how to use the environment to your advantage, that really shouldnt be an issue.

One additional reason to use the bow instead of the double barrel is the cycle time, including the reload of the shotgun. The bow gets more shots off faster if you have more than two targets.
