Some Game suggestions and ideas
Hi everyone. I am a casual player and my stle of play is solo with no hunters at all. I prefer to scavage, farm, and hunt/fish. I love to build as well. I know this is probably lame to many active players but the only confrontations I desire are with nature not humans.
I really enjoy this game whenevr I do play and am so grateful to and amazed with what Coldgames has created here. It is by far better than anything I have experienced thus far in the gaming industry. So many kudos and thanks to Coldgames!!!! Keep up the superior and most excellent development.
With that said here are some suggestions and ideas I thought I'd share in the hopes you might at some future date in time consider incorporating into the game. I usually do not post anything and so I thank you in advance for your patience with me and please be kind in response. Thank you in advance everyone. :steamhappy:

-Ability to quarry, shape, and utilize stone or rocks to construct fortifications.
-Creation of wire or rope snares, deadfalls, animal traps, pits, and booby traps.
-Drop boxes to include complete first aid kits, flares, flashlights, radio, wwalkie talkies. multi tool.
-create "Rambo" style hunting and fighting knife, option to upgrade instinctive bow to a compound bow able to take out tier one predators and large game.
-Increase variety of predators and wild game such as wild and domesticated pigs, Big Horn wild sheep, Elk, Moose, packs of wolves instead of single solitary ones. Foxes and coyotes.Birds of all kinds (with sounds)...hawks, eagles, ducks, geese, swans, loons. Bird nests with eggs that can be found and harvested.
-Increase foraging variety to include mushrooms, nuts, blackberries, apples, pears,
-water species variety to include catfish, shellfish, crayfish, water snakes and land snakes, turtles, and grass carp that can be hunted with a bow.

I appreciate you taking the time to read though my ideas and suggestions.
Have fun playing this great game. I eagerly anticipate the amazing coming improvements.

peace out-
Auld :steamhappy:

I like the stonework suggestion. I’d love to have stone foundations and make a Japanese castle style base.

Theoretically CG is planning on slowly getting rid of the drop boxes so adding new things to them makes no sense. But then in two years that hasn’t happened and new items have found their way into them.

More flora and fauna have been suggested many times before and I’m all for it. Fish, cougar, deer, and a few vegetables in the wild were added but honestly I see the emphasis in this game is totally on war with hunters. If you have them turned off you aren’t getting most of what CG is creating.

Better bows and fighting knives don’t seem in keeping with the more militaristic path CG appears to be on.

So all in all your ideas are what many of us have wanted for years and in keeping with what the name ‘Subsistence’ implies by definition of the word. It is clearly NOT what we’re getting. We are getting a base building and hunter-warfare game. At least the’path’ is becoming somewhat more clear. But honestly I would give up on any hope of seeing what you’ve suggested...and what many of us have suggested for years. The game is not about ‘subsistence’.

Just going to point out that you can already upgrade your bow. Now it doesnt change the looks of it but it does make it a lot stronger. Then if you use premium arrows with the upgraded bow, you are talking about a lot of damage.

how do you upgrade the bow ?

Place a wepon in the workbench then take it out and drop it on the bow... magic ;-)

In reply to Zuleica's comments. I am saddened to hear that the game may never include some of my suggestions and ideas. I do not understand how it must only be base building and hunter warfare. Is it simply too difficult to incorporate some of my suggestions and ideas? Oh well...I guess my hopes were too high for its development. I have really enjoyed the play to this point and now will find it difficult to continue playing further since you have revealed the game developers mindset and future game development agenda.
Thank you for being truthful...have fun in the base building and hunter warfare fantasy world.
I shall move on and keep searching for a game that truely allows "subsistance".
peace out y'all -:steamsad:

Of course those are only my opinions, but ones based on two years and a lot of comments from the dev. I think many of us wished for the same things you did but I've pretty much given up on those kinds of features and resigned myself to a hunter war game.

Go to your workbench. Put one of your weapons in the upgrade slot. Then click(and hold) on that weapon, drag it over your bow, and drop it on your bow. The weapon and bow will change spots putting the bow in the upgrade position. You can now upgrade it.

I must agree, I’m in the out for now camp although I do keep an eye on things.
I can’t help but think this game is heading towards a Rust like game with the Hunters replacing other players (single player Rust in other words)
And I really didn’t want that ☹️

I think the game is all about war.

From the moment hunters are on, forget about everything else. In the beggining it is cool to hunt them down or to defend against them, but then it starts to be the only objective, since everything worthwhile is hold by hunters.

I think hunters shouldn't disappear from the game, but their presence should be changed, their showing up from bigger intervals.

Since there are humans and not only animals in the game, why not adding lost people, officers, researchers on the mountains, idk.

Fauna and flora, fallen airships, abandoned boats, cars, campings... tons of stuff that could bring more fun and enviroment for the scavenging.

Birds, ducks, snakes, boars, alligators, mooses... a lot of possibilities.

Scopes, better bows, knifes, shovels, pickaxes, improved tools.

I am gonna take the liberty to resurrect this post. I am late to Subsistence, I do not have an excuse. Just recently found and tried this game and I love it. There is a retro simplicity to this game that I love... i.e. No menagerie of skills and perks. No stupid vehicles to change the focus of the game. No zombie/vampire horde gimmick.

Like Auld I am attracted to the scenery, hunting, gathering, fishing, base building. This was a great list of suggestions. I bump for more variety of all that. Variety is the spice of life. I do also enjoy messing with the hunters, that never gets old to me.

I would like to add to Auld's list of variety suggestions. Maybe somebody somewhere has mentioned these I do not know. How about some different faces for the hunters, touch creepy killing myself over and over.

I would like to see some rare or very rare drops from the animals like:
Trophy Deer Rack
Trophy Moose Rack
High Quality Bear Pelt
High Quality Wolf Pelt
Large Boar Head
etc

For crafting I would love to build a:
Taxidermy Work bench
Tanning Tub(not sure whats used or whats it called)

From these work stations I would like to craft:
Deer/Moose Head trophies (wall mountable base decoration, using the trophy racks)
Vicious Boar Head trophy (wall mountable base decoration, using boar head)
High Quality Bear/Wolf Hides (wall mountable base decoration)

The Bear/Wolf hides can be used to make base decorations like rugs or wall hangings as well as Bear/Wolf headress. If we gonna have a great game with superb scenery and cool hunting, then have a great game where we can turn the base into a cool as hell hunting lodge.

And..also...last suggestion... WTH did the survivor dude's beard go? What is up with this clean shaven mountain man? BRING BACK THE BEARD!

Thank you love the game. Keep it going.
