Dummy BCU
If you want to try a dummy BCU, is it best to find an unreachable place and place your BCU to stay in perpetuity or just wait for the hunters to build their bases and then dismantle the BCU? I can see problems with leaving the dummy BCU (and benefits, of course). Power is an issue if you have your main BCU at an alternate location, at least early in the game. What are your thoughts?

Last coop game i started (joining someone else's host, fresh new game) - i placed the dummy BCU up in the mountaints, climbing them shortly after noon almost to highest peak. I've reached -10C temperature and quickly placed pre-made curved (cheaper than full) foundation, quarter wall, and a BCU on it. I was still easily able to run back to safe temperatures, despite wearing only basic pants, so i'm sure even higher point can be reached to do this.

Few in-game days passed, hunters appeared, and i got me a message they are attacking my base - by that time i had my main BCU placed, but it was not attacked, meaning they attacked the mountains' one. I did not visit nearby areas to see if hunters built any bases up there high in snow zone, but if they did, then it means those hunters do not interfere with any resource gathering / running around done by any players (which naturally takes place in warmer areas).

Which of course would be an overall benefit, since whenever you want to fight hunters who defend their bases - they can easily be pulled down to warmer temperature space, and looting their bases typically takes place when you're already running with -6C tolerance and health kits available, meaning you have more than enough time to break their door and loot the place.

It is best not to dismantle fake (and any "marker", if you're using some) BCUs. They last rather long time vs hunters before they get destroyed.

Power is never an issue, really. Chickens are abundant. Wolves can be promtly killed with just 3 basic arrows (unless it's a level 4 wolf, which only naturally happen in hardcore - in which case 4 arrows and some running are needed). Each chicken gives 2 feathers, allowing to make 4 arrows. And of course, every shotgun shell is easily another dead wolf, too. This is how animal fat is very adundant resource, - which of course turns into plenty biofuel, which in turn becomes plenty power via generators.

I am with Fins, I built my fake BCU and then just left it up. I make it a floating one (curved foundation on a high rock, two half ceilings laid end to end, quarter wall with BCU). That places the BCU out over an empty space (take your lockpick after you place the BCU). I used to decon everything as I backed away, but I just had the idea now to just move them one at a time to the foundation. That way you have the parts in case you want to get out to the BCU again, and since the hunters will be shooting at the floating BCU, the foundation and parts should not take much, or any, damage.
