Solar panels vs Wind turbines
Has anyone calculated the metrics of this? It seems like that if you had enough panels, even on a windy day, at 40% power, you'd still be outperforming a few turbines if you have a dozen or so panels. Should I dump all resources into a specific one? Or is there a ratio? Like 4 panels per turbine or something?

even if what you say is truth do not forget that solar works only during the day while turbines work all the time, day or night ... in my opinion don't do only solar or only turbines, make both of them in equal quantities so that you'll have power no mater day or night sunny or storm.

Actually, the turbines really only generate power just before and during a rain event. Resources are better spent on solar, to begin with, and then add both once you have about 10 panels setup. At least that is how I do it.

Turbines don't generate as much power as solar panels. In my opinion you should focus on solar panel production and then when you have a decent amount of panels start making enough turbines so that you don't lose any power during storms. Don't worry about having enough turbines to actually "produce" power during storms; at least not until you have a really good power production during the day versus power loss at night.

None of it matters if you haven't built enough power storage devices. Make sure your storage takes into account how much power it takes to run everything for potentially a full day night cycle (in case of rain).

Build enough panels to cover base power expenditures + some extra. The extra will go to storage. Also as of now in my opinion it isn't worth upgrading solar panels. Just build more of them.

Once you hit that point then think about adding some turbines.

Eventually you will get to the point where power is virtually irrelevant you have so much stored.

It is not an opinion, it is not worth updating neither the solar panels nor the wind turbines, you spend almost double to improve 2 panels to the maximum that is equivalent to making 1 new panel or turbine that costs almost half

Exactly. Make a new one. I usually only upgrade when I have nothing else to do.

Is everyone forgetting that solar panels rely on the amount of sun they receive and wind turbines on the amount of wind? Both sources, the amount of available light and wind vary throughout the day, I tried to come up with some sort of comparison but the ever changing weather makes it almost impossible. Here are some numbers that you can play around with:

Solar panel:
Normal output: @100% Light: 0.07
Upgraded output: @100% Light 0.09
(Variable output by light amount=100% at noon with bright sun)

Wind Turbine: Upgraded
Wind speed and Output
13.5 MPH 0.09
15.5 MPH 0.10
17.5 MPH 0.11
18.5 MPH 0.12
20.0 MPH 0.13
22.5 MPH 0.14
23.5 MPH 0.15
24.6 MPH 0.16
25.0 MPH 0.16

That is what my suggestion for massive power storage is about. Bank enough power to get through the times when weather or light are not cooperating

Yes, my power storage is based on daily usage, and stuff that runs 24/7 plus extra storage of about 25%. I have learned how much power is consumed on stormy days as well as sunny days. On stormy days, I use the generators to top off the power before leaving the base. I could install extra solar panels and wind turbines but I don't like the clutter of panels and turbines by going overboard.

Thanks for this, and to all for chiming in with advice. I'll be taking this into account. I have 12 panels at the moment and plan on getting a few more to ensure I can power my refinery and and fridge and have enough store for night use

The choice is up to the player. Everyone prefers something different. I only use solar panels and have a 30.06 / second charge for practically the whole day. Even when I work at night and use a little power, in the morning I have the batteries fully filled in a few seconds. Wind turbines are inefficient, in my opinion, even with a full upgrade they are too weak. Full upgrade solar panels are much more efficient
