Farming
Firstly, Conratulations on a very good game and full of promise. Although its dificult its very addictive.

I am trying to farm, I have crafted the planter and plannted tomatos, how do I use the ash as fertiliser? Also I cancelled a cotton from growing and lost it.

Thanks.

Happy New year to all.

If you're wanting to set up for farming I'd suggest an animal house with poop tray and use that type of fertilizer. It's more efficient as far as I can tell.

Agree with Owen, before I upgraded the poop tray, i need to 'farm' for ashes in hunter's fire place, and even created another fire pit indoors for ashes. With poop tray, I even have enough to recycle it

Yeah... once you cancel a plant, it's gone. I also don't recommend animal housing unless you are very far into the game and bored. They are a waste of good tomatoes that YOU can be eating.

Only ever put a couple of animals in the housing at a time, that way they don't eat all your food.. lol.. and they still produce prodigious amouts of fertilizer.. haha. Take them out and butcher once they reach level 10 (freerange, and make sure you turn it on, reduces the food usage)

Thanks for the information guys, ill give it at try. Too many things to make before i tackle the hunters.

If you're using fertilizer from an animal house you can dump your extra ash in the recycler for mass.

Nice idea Zuleica, 100% recycling with some benefits.

To make another point to this, yes farming does have exponential yields. But it may be a bit of luck.
1) first time I harvested 2 tomatoes I got 2 tomatoes back. Right clicked and made them back into seeds and replanted.
2) harvested the tomatoes again this time got 4 tomatoes from 2 plants. Made into seeds again and am now waiting for them to grow.

I think it's the same as anything in this game. All down to RNG for things like drops. Im guessing it's 1-2 fruit from a plant. Maybe even 1-3.

Only two tomatoes per plant harvested, always turn one of the two into a seed and replant. The only time I don't extract a seed depends on how many seeds I managed to find in crates.

I've found the fertilizer from animal houses to be VERY useful. I use that primarily for my planters and then I can use most of the ash for ammunition.

It's not rng, it's set at fixed values. It's always 2 tomatoes from 1 plant and 3 cotton from 1 plant.

As an alternative to Animal Housing for the fertilizer, simply make 6-7 camp fires, and burn wood to get the ash. It piles up very fast, and the wood from trees cost you nothing.

I always find more seeds in crates than I can ever use.
