i've started many new games...like about 20...and never seen a shortage of fiber.
Ok, good for you. And the guy i was quiting and me, at least, have started many games and have noticed that in some of the maps there is a big shortage of fibers for whatever reason. And it's easy to see when you have one of such maps. Maybe the spawn happen almost all in the other corner of the map, maybe the general spawn is low...whatever but it happens.
This is like those comments about crashings that are so typical. A guy has many crashes with an EA game, then came another one and says that game is ok because he has 0 crashes...ok but it doesn't help anyone: you, me, other players and the dev.
Negating vs all the people who post in this thread and saying that the problem is that all the others are wrong, or are blind or don't know how to play...seriously, that doesn't help.
You have played for 3.3 hours according to your profile. My conclusion is that you have simply not learned how to spot them yet. I've posted more than a few times that it is not obvious and is a learned skill that is perceptually very different than what your brain is use to. Because of the way we naturally look for things in the environment it will take you longer than 3.3 hours...and then only if you have an open mind.
I would say that by now you have a firmly embedded confirmation bias to overome as well.
